Goodwill Plans Gigantic Attic Sale By Cynthia Bell Post Staff Writer Goodwill Industries is hav ing a gigantic Attic Sale and Open House on Saturday, Nov. 19, at their main location on 2125 Freedom Drive. The Attic Sale will be held in the parking lot outside their main location on the corner of Freedom Drive and Berry hill Road, according to J. Michael Elder, President. The Attic Sale will feature large and small pieces of collectables, furniture, office equipment, books, records, glassware, hundreds of mis cellaneous items, and even a kitchen sink. If there is rain and not sunhine, the Attic Sale will be held inside the Thrift Store, In addition to the Attic Sale, the Thrift Store will have a special sale on clothing as well as other items. There will also be a tour of the plant at 0 the Attic Sale and refresh ments will be available for everyone. uooawiU is a national organ ization, and has been since 1902, when it was first organi zed in Bostin, Mass. Good will Industires of the Southern Piedmont, Inc., on Freedom Drive shares the national name, accreditation, and cre dentials. Goodwill also has Thrift Stores at Spirit Square, and in Gastonia. Goodwill is a non-profit or ganization designed to serve anyone with a vocational pro blem. Handicapped, emo tionally disturbed, mentally retarded, substance abusers (alcohol or drug), and the disadvantaged are the focal groups that Goodwill is con cerned with. MGBA Woman’s Auxiliary To Hear Rev. Wallace The Woman's Auxiliary of the Mecklenburg General Baptist Association will hold its Annual Awards and Re cognition Program at Friend ship Baptist Church, 3301 Beatties Ford Road, on Thurs day, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Goodwill’s Job Place ment Program has successful ly placed handicapped indivi duals in television and radio repair, cashiers, file clerks, maintenance, and as maids. The testing equipment used to evalluate individual’s men tal and phsyical abilities was acquired through grants pro vided by the Rehabilitation Service Administration which is a branch of the department of Health Education and Wel fare (HEW). With these grants, Goodwill purchased Hester Systems Testing Equipment invented by Dr. Ed Hester of Chicago, who is a specialist in the rehabilitation of handicapped individuals. “Goodwill will be sending two of their evaluators to Chicago to acquire valuable information about the testing equipment that will make their testing system the best of its kind in the two Carolinas,’’ said Jeri Morse of Goodwill, r umcert Participants in Receiving Line: L. to Delorese Hill. Reps. Don Edwards and Parren Mitchell announced recently that they will lead a congressional delegation to Raleigh on Dec. 4. Felmet wrote the National Wilmington Ten Defense Com mittee in Washington: “A ma jor part of my campaign for the U S. Senate is soliciting signatures for your petition to free the Ten. Guys And Dolls, Inc Observes Founder’s Day On Sunday, October 30, Beta Chapter of Guys and Dolls. Inc. observed the founding of its national organization. The observance was culmi nated with a concert, given by four of its chapter members, and centered around the the me, "We Walk With God." The beautiful and warm sanctuary of the C.N. Jenkins Memorial United Presbyterian Church provided an ideal setting for the brilliant soprano voices of Dolls Angela Little and Delo rese Hill, the captivating rich ness of tenor Preston Hill and the depth and warmth of baritone Charles Crump The performance of the partici pants was superbly supported by the very capable accompa niment of Mr. William Lind say. The concert was preceded by an organ medly of well known hymns played by Guy Samuel Hill. The program was drawn to a close with a recep tion in the fellowship hall of the church at which time a display of achievement of Be ta Chapter was viewed The observance of Foun der's Day is an annual event that takes place in October and may be executed in what ever manner each chapter chooses. This year's observance was coordinated by Doll Mae Lit tle. as Chairperson, with Doll Vincie Dunham and Guys John Glenn and Preston Hill as committee members.
