Sunday School Lessen By Rev Way Ion R Wallace R«v WaiUce Greetings fellow Bible stu dents! "Who Is The Great est?" This is the subject of the coming lesson for discussion. Our text is found in Luke 22:24-27 and Mark 9:33-37. These two gospel writers Teveal something very impor tant about the disciples. They were ambitious men. They had all left something in order to follow Jesus. They had all come to follow the Lord expec ting to receive something of more value than what had been left behind. What they were seeking was greatness. Oh, what sacrifices a man will make in order to win that coveted prize! Let us observe here that an inordinate desire lor greatness is never satis fied. These men truly believed that they would eventually acquire greatness, because of all the wonderful things they had seen their Master say and - do. But, now they had a new concern. Who would be the greatest among the great? Which one of them would be the ruler over all others? Who would have the honor of sitting at the right hand of the Lord when his Kingdom came in all its power? Now, it would appear to the writer that ambition is natural, universal and per haps necessary. Jesus does not condemn ambition. Rather he demands that we recognize the true path of greatness. That way is the way of ser vice. Their failure to see or recognize this face caused strife and confusion among them on more than one occa sion. How much strife is caus ed in our churches and other religious circles by folk want ing praise, position and promi nence? One can not sing on the choir unless he sings solo often. Another cannot usher unless she is also President. Some will not come to Sunday Froety Car Windows Unsafe And Illegal Motorists who fail to clear frost from their car's wind shield, side, and rear windows not only risk having or causing an accident, but they also risk receiving a traffic citation, according to Highway Patrol Commander, Colonel John T. Jenkins. Jenkins pointed out that failure to clear all the froet from all the car windows was not only unsafe but also a violation. North Carolina law ' requires the windshield, rear, and side glasses to be free from discoloration which im pairs the driver's vision or creates a hazard, he said. During this season of the year, Jenkins suggested, mo torists should anticipate frost and cover their car glasses at night. If they do not, they should scrape all froet from all car glasses before starting out on these frosty mornings. Mortorists attempting to reach their destination while peering through a 'peephole" of froet can expect enforce ment action by the Patrol, Jenkins said. Keep your out-of-town , friends informed on what's happening in Charlotte by sending them a copy of the Charlotte Post each week. The cosUs^ml^JlOjger^ear^^ School unless they dre teach ers. Many will not perform a job twice unless they are showerd with praise after the task has be done the first time. It is difficult to get folk to perform true mission work because it is not done in the church house where it can be seen and praised. The men or women of the world seek power and authori ty in order that they may Lord it over others. They seek position in order that they may be served. This is not the way of the Lord's kingdom. Every person must seek the benefit of his neighbor. In the world men tend to hide their own faults and expose the faults of their brother so that they njay gain the advantage over them. Not so in God's kingdom. The Love of God's children hides a multitude of one another's sins. Jesus uniquely demonstrat ed his point to his disciples. He ιυυκ a cniia ιηιο uieir miasi and into his arms telling them that whoever receives one such as children in his name receives him as well as the Father who sent him. What characteristics of children we re the Lord pointing to? There are at least two. First, the child is utterly dependent up on the adult. Second, beside himself, he has nothing of benefit to offer. We are usually out to re ceive the person that can do some thing for us. But, Jesus tells us to seek out those for whom we may do something. We are programmed to desire the friendship of people who can give to us. Jesus com mends us to give, even to thoee from whom we can expect no return of the favor given. If we observe what is hap pening in the business world, we will see that the moet successful businesses are tho se who have the public convin ce^ that they can and fi|J give them the best servicè'avail· abte, whether or not that quality of service is really given or not is another matter. If we would be great churches, we must serve. If we would be great preachers and teachers we must serve. If we would be great individuals or a great race we must learn to serve.
