lip-Off l ouriuunent Hpgiris Hot Bulls Tangle With Barber-Scotia By Nathaniel Myers Post Staff Writer Coach Jerry Fitch will lead his Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith into this weekends Tip Off Tournament with all eyes on the Championship Tro phy The Golden Bulls go into the tournament, which is be ing played at Charlotte's Park Center, with a 2-1 record. Their only lost coming last weekend at the hands of Le noir-Rhyne College, 83-82. It was a last second lost in a well played game But the Bulls have two very impressive wins under their belt to date, a 102-82 win over Belmont Ab bey and a 115-78 victory over arch-rival Barber-Scotia. Friday night at 9 the Golden Bulls go up against defending Tip-Off Tournament Cham pion and Arch-Rival Barber Scotia College of Concord. The action starts at 7 with St. Augustine College going a gainst Allen University of Co lumbia, S.C. Even thnuph Fi»rh'« OnlHon Bulls have defeated Barber Scotia soundly already this season, Scotia's Assistant Coach John Thomas says “we will be ready come Friday night." “Johnson C. Smith is our rival and our boys will be up for the game." “There is never a problem getting up for Smith" said Thomas. He also added that Reggie Williams should be ready, “Reggie has been plagued by a injured knee that has been giving him , problems." The big 6'9” Se nior from Atlanta, Ga. has been badly missed by Barber Scotia this season. Last season Reggie shot 50 percent from the floor and 74 percent from the free throw line with 492 rebounds, a lofty 17.6 average per game, while adding 12 points per contest. So far this season (thru Dec. 12) Reggie has played in only three games scoring 10 points, and collecting only seven re bounds. Thomas said “with Reggie hurt, we are playing a lot of freshmen.” "It’s just a . matter of finding the right combinations." Thomas fault ed last weekend loss to the Golden Bulls on just being cold from the floor and “rushing things,” (not waiting to get into our patterns). Anyway Thomas assures us a good defense of the title from the Sabers of Barber-Scotia.” On the other hand Coach Fitch and his Golden Bulls are noi taking the Sabres ngntly, even though Barber-Scotia has a record of 1 win and 5 losses. "We will be working jusf as hard if they were 5-1” says Fitch. The Bulls feel they have the power to take this years tour nament. Herb Entzminger leads the team in scoring with a 26.1 average. Followed by playmaker Sonny Proctor with a 16 point per-game average Charles Stewert is shooting at a 15.1 clip. The Bulls are also blessed with balance scoring with Char lotte’s William “Duke” Harris is chipping in 14 points a game and the fifth starter, Robert Terry is averaging 10 points per contest. The Golden Bulls are exper ienced, quick and talented. One observer said last week en4-during the WBTV Caro lina Qassic that “Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls are so fast that they could cut off the lights and be in bed before it gets dark. " Any way the Bulls do look impressive and will be hard to beat on anybody's court this year. On Saturday the losers play at 7 and Friday night’s win ners will play afterwards for the coveted title. J.C. CANNON CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST 200 TUCKASEEGEE ROAD, P.O. BOX 1152 CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA 28231 PASTOR E. C. CANNON, FOUNDER (704) 334-9879 December 8,1977 • Dear Members & Friends:,/ Have you ever stopped to think that you can’t serve God too much? Sometimes, we may feel that you are being called to service too much, but remember with all the different types of services going on the Word of God is the most important part of the service. I’m to be in Richmond, VA. for a week, but the Lord said for me to gather the saints together on December 15th. There will be two services held in the main auditorium. Time 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. You are to fast from daybreak until 12 noon. Prayer is very important. We must be praying from 11 a.m. until 12 noon and the Word of God in the 7 p.m. service. Elder Moore was very upset, but I told him I had to obey the Holy Ghost. I will lose a considerable amount of money by leaving the revival early, but I must obey God. The Lord is saying so many good things to me on this Thursday, the 8th of December, as I write to you, that I wish it was possible to share all of them with you; but unfortunately it is not possible. ELDER CANNON j Everyone of you that will receive this letter you are to go out and invite 24 persons in your community to attend the 7 p.m. service, air of which must be non-members of the Cathedral. INVITE ALL NATIONS TO COME. Use your telephone, feet, and your car to get this message across, for it is very important. Let me say to each of you again, that will receive this letter that you must be present in both the 11 a.m. and the,7 p.m. service. No excuse will be accepted, your failure to attend will cut off many good things God has enstore for you. Someone will say, “I never get anything out of these services.” But, you must ask yourself the question, “Do I really carry out what the man of God says?” Upon receiving this letter repeat the following prayer 30 times, before next Thursday. (★ ★FATHER IN THE NAME OF JESUS, DO IT AGAIN!* * ) WOE UNTO YOU if you fail to obey. But, everyone that will obey will be lifted from oppression, depression, and burdens. If I asked you to bring a certain amount of money and told you that you would be blessed for doing so, many of you would do it. I am asking you to be obedient to this letter, and watch God bless you for it. \ Many ot you wun good jods leei very secure with them, but except you give God more time, than you have been giving - you are going to lose everything. That goes for members and friends as well. The Bible teaches us to obey them that have the rule over us (Heb. 13:7). There are some of you that will not be able to get off your jobs for one of the services depending on the time you go to work. But, don’t let that hinder you from going through the consecration or attending the service at which time you are not working. It is for the best that you attend both services. There are three reasons most of you can’t receive the blessing from God that you desire. They are: gossipping, deceitfulness, and forgetfulness of God. Read your Bible Truth, you will see that you need to be covered in the blood of Jesus. This is a warning, it is up to you to heed it. Please, continue to pray much for me and my ministry, as I pray for you. Until Thursday, December 15. 1977. YoursTor the Master’s service, Pastor Karl C.
