Prophets Column “The Way Of The Heath en” By J.M. Little "HEAR YE THE WORD which the LORD speaketh unto you, 0 house of Israel: Thus said the LORD, LEARN NOT THE WAY OF THE HEATHEN, and be not dis» mayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. THEY DECK IT WITH SIL ~VER AND GOLD; THEY FASTEN IT WITH NAILS AND WITH HAMMERS, THAT IT MOVE NOT." You'll find those words in Jer. 10:1-4. What is the old weeping pro phet describing here? - You guessed it right - the Xmas tree. The Jews were in Baby lonian captivity during this time. The heathen had an originated a celebration which is the modern day Xmas cele bration. ___ i ■ * um obj jwu cmi c ccicui cum^ the Birthday of Christ When was Christ born? The 25th of 0tcember you answer. Where in the Bible is it recorded that Christ was born on the 25th of December? It is not. The Lord kept the date of His birth a secret from the world. Let me ask you further; do you have a commandment to celebrate the birthday of Christ? No, you do not. So what you are doing is going along with the way of the heathen. Have you ever given the Lord Jesus a birthday present? No, you haven’t. Would you like for someone to celebrate your birthday and give the gifts to some others? I wouldn't. It was the way of the Baby lonian heathen to put on a celebration about the end of the year, around the 25th of December. They called it Yule day. One of the true marks of a bomagain believer is OBE DIENCE to the Word of God. Are you one that will obey the Word of the Lord, or do you belong to the group of rebels that will go down to the Pit? “Mv Hparlv KpIpvpH flan from idolatry." What does this mean? Why does God say Littlechildren, keep yourselv es from idols.” Webster says, Idolatry is ‘excessive love or veneration for anything.” God is a jealous God and will not share the love ot. His people uwi ally Rtol.' Holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Good Friday, Lent, Valentines Day, Halloween and others are pa gan, worldly and idolatrous and if we observe or take any part in these holidays, we are guilty of idolatry. If you don’t believe this, go to your ency clopedia and read there, when they were started, who started them and for what purpose they were and are used. Then ask yourself, can I as a Christian have anything to do with them? You will go to the encyclo pedia and read and believe what it says about other mat ters but you will not believe what it says about these idola trous holidays because you have to have something mate rial to worship when you do not know the Lord Jesus Ch rist as your Lord and your Saviour. The Lord said, “He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.” (Jn. 8:47) It’s just this .Simple, you are either hearing Obeying) the Word of the J. M. Little Cord, or you are going the way of the heathen. Each year a list is kept, you try to send everyone a gift in proportion to what you think vou will get from them Some of you are still in debt from things you bought last year. You will take money you need to spend on clothes and food for your family to whoop up a great time, claiming you are celebrating the birth of Christ. What a tragedy! Some of you here told me several years ago that you saw the truth about this idola trous holiday. But it can be said of you as it is recorded in II Pet. 2:22. “But it is happen ed unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turn ed to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.” All idolaters shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brim stone according to Rev 21 •« As an unbeliever you don’t believe the Word of God, but just as certain as God is on the throne you will taste of His wrath forever and forever. According to the 53rd chap ter of Isaiah the Lord was a Man of sorrows. He has no thing to do with your Merry Christmas. You'hear this ex pression; "Put Christ back in Christmas.” The Lord Jesus Christ was never in Christmas % .how in the. name of high heaven can He get back In it? Before a sinner is awakened to his lost condition, he thinks he believes the Word of God but in reality you don’t. Once you are awakened you find you cannot believe God’s Word. You find yourself cau ght up in unbelief and are lost and under the judgement of God. Have you experienced what I am talking about? Can you go back to a time when the Holy Spirit awaken ed you to the fact of your lost condition? Have you ever sto od before the judgement lost? Most of you have never known Holy Spirit Conviction that teaches the sinner who he is, and then shows him who Ch rist is. All you have is church membership. You are just as empty as a rusty tin can, or more so. The church members of to day, including the preachers, are just as heathen as old Babylon. One evidence of this is your love for the celebration that came out of Babylon. Where do you stand? Now you may say, "Bro. Little, if I don t join in and celebrate they will make fun of me and call me a 'scrooge' and say I'm peculiar." Let them say that, they make fun of me like that, I just go on thanking the Lord for saving me and thanking Him for drawing me out of all this idolatry. The greatest thing in all this world is just to know the Lord Jesus Christ. "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever. I Jn. 2:15-17. I’d rather be in Christ than have all this world and ten thousand more like it. There is safety and joy everlasting in Christ. Do you know Christ? The one eternal question you had better settle before you leave this world is; "Do I know Christ?” Now you think on these truths I'm giving you. You are eternity bound, and one day you are going to have to give an account of your life down here. Yes you will, you , are going to give account. Where are you going? I'm glad I have safe conduct to heaven. One day I'm going hontev No more sin, no' more sorrows, no more heart aches, but to be with Christ, the One who died for me, Christ died for me. Did He die for you? I--1 Give A Gift That Lasts The Year-Round: A Subscription Charlotte Post Subscription. Crossword Puzzle ACROSS 1. Fire remains •.View 11. Luck IS. Harass 14. Landlord’s fee 15.
