Delta Sorority Spreads Christmas Spirit By Dianne Simpson Post Staff Writer The sorors of the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., as well as the sorors of Johnson C. Smith University are actively in volved in spreading Christmas cheer during this holiday sea son. On last Monday night, a group of Delta Sorors shared their talents in arts and crafts at a workshop, conducted by Soror Jacquelyn Sanders, for the 20 residents of unwed mothers at the Florence Crit tendon Home. On the same night, the other group of Delta sorors along with the Delta Ensemble held Christmas Vespers with the residents of Aery's Rest Ho me. A new version of the original Christmas story was Cmted along with the sing of numerous Christmas carols. Residents were then presented by the sorors potted plants and corsages. These things along with o m*vi uvuiuiw ouv.ii ao uic sponsoring of canned meat items at the Greenville Neigh borhood Center for the Moun tain of Food Effort sponsored by WGIV are just a few of the many blessing Hungs that the Delta Sigma Theta Sorors are doing to make sure that many people indeed have a very Merry Christmas. Route 12 To Get Additional Service Effective Monday Decem ber 19, the Charlotte Transit System added two bus trips on the Scaleybark loop of Route 12-South Boulevard. The mor ning bus will depart the Squ are at 7:10am, arriving and leaving the Scaleybark time point at 7:40 am. Returning, the bus will arrive at the Square at 8:05 am. The afternoon bus will de part the Square at 5:40 pm, arriving and leaving the Sca lejjbarl^imegoint^^^n^ On Sunday Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m. the Jonesville Spiritualeers of the Jonesville AME Zion Church in Matthews, N.C. held their annual second state rally. The second state rally is an annual fund raising event. The rally consists of a person representing each of the fifty states. These persons then solicit money from friends. Ms. Veola Patterson, who raised the largest sum of money was crowned winner of the rally. Ms. Patterson represented the state of Florida. The Spiritualeers is a musical group of the church and is comprised of all ages. The offices for the group are Mrs. Willie Adams-president, Mrs. Brenda Nash vice president, Mrs. Eunice Davis - secreta ry, Ms. Faye Houston - assistant secretary and Mrs. Frankie B. Johnson - treasurer. The mistresses of ceremony were Ms. Brenda Nash and Ms. Dorothy Triplett. Music was rendered by visiting choirs and the Spiritu aleers. Rev. C.L. Wilcox, Jr. gave remarks. The members of the Spiritualeers include Jackie Stitt, Thomas Stitt, Jr., Veola Patter son, Nadine Allison, Melissa Davis, Jacque line Moore, Dorothy Triplett, Beatrice Guin, Jacqueline Grier. Jean Stitt, Faye Houston, Cindy Moore and Geraldine Halsey. Druid Hills Club Exchange Gifts With Secret Pals The Druid Hills Garden Club held its December meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Ellis recently. The hostess served dinner, after which gifts were exchanged and se cret pals were revealed. There was also carol singing by the group. The following members and guests attended: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Simmons, Mrs. Rober ta Lyles, Mr. and Mrs. John son, Mrs. Edna Gaston, Mrs. Ann Williams, Mrs. Eva J. Wiley, Mr. and Mrs. William Conner, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Patterson, Mr. and Mrs. Er nest McCree, Mr. and Mrs. John Blackmon, Mrs. Sadie English, Mr. and Mrs. F.J. McGill, and Mr. and Mrs. John Wade. Some garden club members and their guests enjoyed an evening at the Pineville Din ner Theatre last week. They were: Mr. and Mrs. William Conner, Mrs. Louise Brown, Mr. and Mrs. John Ellis, Mrs. Edna Gaston, Mrs. Ann Wil liams, Mr. and Mrs. James Ellis, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Simmons, Mrs. Maggie John son, Mrs. Dora McGill, Mrs. Sadie English, Mrs. Emma Wade, Mrs. Eva J. Wiley, Mrs. H.S. Diggs, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest McGree, Mr. and Mrs. John Blackmon, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Patterson. Several club members. Mrs. Eva Wiley, Mrs. Camwell Holley, Mrs. Martha Foster, and Mrs. Patricia Foster spent a recent weekend shop ping in Atlanta.
