Record Corner I Hard to believe... but it’s true. After six months., the talk of the industry is still the "Saturday Night Fever” album by the Bee Gees. The album has been number one on everyone’s list since the beginning of the year. It has already sold 7 million copies... which already makes it one of the most successful in history. The clincher, however, is this . It is expected that over the next few months, the album will sell 5 million more copies. Now, there are some class ics which industry buffs say have sold more than that, but no one yet has come up with an album that has sold 12 million copies in a year. Who say we all don't have the same taste in music. SOUL SOUNDS... People are beginning to talk about the new album from Johnny Mathis, which fea tures him and Deniece Will iams on a couple of duets. The two team up very well on “To Much, Too Little, Too Late,” and also on “Emo tion.” All this is on Mathis latest Columbia LP “You Jim Berry J Light up My Life.” Mathis himself does an ex ceptional job on a solo of the Bee Gees “How Deep Is Your Love.’’ An unusual combination that works well here. Tower Of Power ...the up again, dawn again group from the West Coast...maybe on the the upswing again. Their Latest LP , on Col umbia Records, is “We Came To Play.” On this album, it sounds like they did. Lonnie Liston Smith comes off with a very good live album with “Lolveland,” on Columbia Records. This is Lonnie’8 first release on that label, and fortunately, the change in labels has not af fected his style. He and his Cosmic Echoes are good all the way through this LP If the group a weakness, its Smith’s singing MUSIC FROM NEW FACES.. “Journey to the Light" is the title of a new release by a group called “Brainstorm.” This group is in the same mold as the Pockets...And its pro bably no coincidence that CBS Records is sponsoring both groups. -/ * '“v* win Ob wiAJUA/i ib rwiTon^ id Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs To Star In “Youngblood” YoungDiood, starring Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs of “Cooley High” and “Welcome Back Hotter” fame, has been acquired from Aion Communi cations by American Interna tional Pictures for release this spring. An unusual story of a preco cious young man’s struggle to break out of the big city ghetto as well as to be accepted by his peers, the turn introduces Bryan O’dell, of the “What’s Happening” television series, in the title role. As Rommel, an embittered young street gang leader in “Youngblood,” Jacobs stars as yet another of the street characters through which he gained fame both in motion pictures and television. As adept as the talented Jacobs is at portraying young street people, he sometimes feels that this particular facet of his talent may be a detri ment. After his successful role as a young militant in the hit film, “Claudine,” he came west to screen test for “Spar kle” and learned an ironic lesson about casting. "They told me I was to militant for the role, since they had only seen my work in ‘Claudine.’ I discovered that my acting ability was interfe ring with my career. I was too good in one part to be cast as someone entirely different, jKHaoooooaeoooQc LAWRENCE HILTON JACOBS ...“Welcome Back Hotter” star uiey uiuugni, jacoos rueluliy concluded. An original musical score has been composed] and per fotmed by the rock group WAR. Co-starring is Ren Woods, fresh from her triumphs in the Tony Award winning stage musical, "The Wiz,” and the Emmy Award winning mini series, “Roots.” “Youngblood” was directed OBDOBgOBBOCOaBB by Noel Nosseck, and produ ced by Nick Grillo and Allen Riche, and written by Paul Carter Harrisson.
