Witt Dime Campus Capers Have you been traveling in the vacinity of Johnson C. Smith University and saw pos ters and signs illustrating pro ductions by the Green Spirit Enterprise and wondered what this group is all about? Well, your curiosity days are all over. The Green Spirit Enterprise is not a new dance or singing group enroute for broadway productions, but a group com prised of six intelligent young JCSU males who see this tremendous need to want to become a part of the business world. Unlike businesses whi ch are based on the theorized “Money making-money keep ing-money growing" process es, the Green Spirit Enter prise is based on the “Fund raising-funds distribution business growing” concept. Members of the Enterprise are juniors Sherwood Chan-, nell (Commun.i, and Alvin Stone (Poii. Sci.). The senior members are Ronnie McCray (Sociology), Curtis Ha 11 urns (Bus ), Willie McMahand (So ciology) and Larry Kelly (Commun.). The reason for the organiza tion of this group, according to Channell, “was a drastic need to break the barrier that exists in communications and invol vement between the student body and the University, and the University and the com munity." Channell pointed out that too often many students on most of the college cam puses tend to waste valuable time and money by using both unwisely. “While using valu able time to just sit around and not do anything, or invest it in those needless materialis tic items, a person could do something that would benefit himself, as well as others,” Channell stated. “Our main purpose as a group," Channell continued, “is to provide fund raising drives in the forms of discos, j fashion and talent shows, and game tournaments such as ■ Dianne Simpson M chess, backgammon, pool etc. to help meet the neds of student, university, and com munity projects.” According to Channel!, who acts in the advertisement area for the Enterprise, this group is a non-profit organization. All monies obtained through the drive go to benefit the causes at that particular time or invested to help promote others that may present them selves in the future. So far this group has sponsored discos of which the funds obtained went to benefit such well known organizations and groups such as the Untied Negro College Fundand the case of The Wilmington Ten. They have also sponsored events for a few of the campus fraternities and sororities. Channel! urges that any group interested, camp*is as well as community, should contact any member of the Green Spirit Enterprise if in need of any type of assistance for a fund raising project He also commented that more college students should try to “be active by getting involved and doing something that is worthwhile. It pays off in the end."
