Frank_ B.Avcock ill Seeks judgeship Aycock Makes Effort To Gain Black Support By Sidney Moore Post Staff Writer Frank B. Aycock III, Attor ney at Law, is one of three candidates for Judge of Super ior Court of the 26th District He is running against L. Stanley Brown and Robert M. Burroughs for the seat curren tly occupied by Judge Fred H. Hasty, who has served since 1965 and is not a candidate for another term in office. A trail lawyer for 12 years, Aycock now wants to take part in another side of his profess ion. He said service in private practice and as an assistant district attorney has exposed him to almost all the kinds of experiences available. A jud geship, he implied, would open the way for other kinds of accomplishments. Although Aycock has been on the opposition team in many civil rights related cas es, he maintains an amicable relationship with a number of black lawyers and civic lead ers. He named the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and Unit ed Negro College Fund as two of the efforts to which he has made contributions. JMioris io gam oiacK sup port have been ma'de, said Aycock. Black Caucus and Black Lawyers Association endorsements would be welco med, he said. Campaigning for a judge ship has some difficulties, Aycock pointed out. Candid ates are restricted from mak ing statements on controvers ial issues and passed or pend ing court cases. Legal compla ints can be brought by other candidates if one of them violates the restrictions. Much of the work Aycock now does involves defending insurance compaines and pub lic officials against injury lia bility claims Other candid ates, he said, have different areas of expertise. However, Aycock said there is “no maj or difference” in the ablities of the candidates. The 39-year old candidate is married. He is the son of an Elizabeth City attorney and his family has deep roots in the legal and public service professions. If he is successful in winning the judgeship, Aycock hopes to try a number of civil cases. He noted the time consuming nature of such cases and said they often clutter court dock ets. He is interested in seeking solutions to this problem. Merchants Who Advertise In The Post Are Telling You They Appreciate Your Business!!
