Prophet's Column "Beware Of Covetousness" . "And He said unto them, Take heed, and BEWARE OF COVETOUSNESS: for a man's life coosisteth not in the abundance of the things which hepoueueth. (Lie. 12:15) Our subject is; "Beware of Covetousness." The word "beware" means to be watch ful, to be on your guard, to guard against. Our Lord here is warning that we should beware of covetousness. Covetousness Is grasping and going after things with no restraint. You hear the state ment; "I am going to do my own thing, and I'm going to get what I want, when I want." That is one of the dominating spirits of covet ousness we see going uncheck ed today, you come face to face with it everywhere you go Here in the 12th of Luke our Lord is warning particularly about the sin of coveting material goods. Christ said here in verse 15 "a man's life consisteth not in the abund ance of the things which he possesseth." How many of you, your life revolves around your material possessions. All the material goods of this life time will pass awav with th* Thomas Moore ... What about your life friend? Many of you have made money your life. You live for the dollar. You've got to make this money, or that money, it's a game with you. And the old saying goes; make it honest if you can, if you can't, just make money, and then, mane all you can. and can all you make. That's the way of life of practically every business man, and everyone else including most preachers What a tragedy! \ mvetousness soul is a list I ι Ik s.η of covetousness is noi the way of life of the Lord's people Now you let that soak in. The rich man here in Luke 12 was blessed with such a good harvest of goods until he decided to pull down his pre sent barns and build greater barns to bestow "ALL MY FRUITS AND MY GOODS." In this story we see no thank fulness on his part unto the Lord for such a great harvest. How many of you farmers and ranchers are like that today? God has given you an abund ance in your crops, you have plenty and your silos and storage bins are full. Have you thanked the Lord for it? Last summer when I was down east I saw soy bean and cornfields so large I egpuldn't see the UQcs af-the ""IQid of the fields, It was like looking out across the ocean, no end in sight. And I rode along the highway side for hours looking at all those huge fields, they were a beaut ι lui sight. But how many of you are thankful-' You made good crops. Riding along for miles and miles of flat rolling beautiful black soil w ith miles and miles of crops in abund ance. But you are not thank ful. The Lord gave you those great harvests But the multitudes of you are just like this rich man here in Luke 12 who said. "Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat. drink. attO—be merry." Not one time did he even mention the Lord, so he couldn't give thanks unto the Lord. In other words, he thought his life consisteth of the abundance of the things he possessed. The rich man only thought to this life like the multitudes of you. Mow many have said "I'm only going to live once, and this world is the only world I know " My heart bleeds when 1 hear you make a statement like that because l know that you don't know the Lord. My friend, you are going to live twice and die twice if you fail to come to know Christ as your Lord and your Savi our. Many of you have money in the bank, and you are piling up more and more in wordly goods, thinking that the mate rial things of this world will satisfy you. Your life is one of grasping material things. You have made a god out of your material possessions I know a man who has made ' m iiii-nrftf tilT-rfr i^ti tiiji looses one cow he almost dies That is because he worships his cows. You say ; Bro Little I just can't give up everything for Christ." Alright, keep it and go to Hell tor your trouble! Public Housing: Myths And Realities lunlinued from Page 1 < fur public housing, although they have all been offered something by the Housing Authority WheLher or not the rent range system produces quotas against the poor, the regula tion results in a situation where a family of three living on welfare cannot get into oublie housing because they can afford to pay only $20-3" a month rent However, a couple with no children and earning $8,300 a year will probably have no difficulty moving into public housing Hast President of the Earle Village Hesidents' Organiza tion. Lutitia Hall, has lived in Earl Village since it opened 11 years ago "We're trying to make public housing a better place for people to live.'' she said. " It's no longer low-rent. The> were when they started out. but not any more " Net income in Earle Village last year was one of the highest in conventional public housing, at $4.309. Average rent per unit was $69.71 per month. The Bureau of Labor Statistics say that in 1977 an urban family of four needed $10.481 for a "lower level of living." of which 20 percent was allocated for housing But in North Carolina, a family of —four on AFDC receives only— S2.400 a year. now ιο gel out ol public housing is another problem Private, low-income housing in Charlotte is almost non existent. Although Draddv affirms that "public housing is intended to be a stop-over between slum housing and private housing," he also admits that the Housing Authority has no real pro grams for getting people into private market housing _ "The. main problem is lack of income and an inadequate supply of affordable housing." said Draddy. 2 Bus Routes To Stm' Krhvki Towns.
