"So Full of Love," their recent LP has just gone platinum. "Use Ta Be My Girl," the single from the album is also a gold record. Percussionist, Ralph Mc Donald recently performed at the grand reopening of the infamous Apollo Theatre. This landmark of black cult ure has been inactive for nearly three years. A wide array of star» were on hand to enjoy his performance like Bobbi Humphrey, the Becker Brothers, Tom Scott, Eric Gàlë, Gladys Knight, Paul Simftn, Nona Hendryx, Willis Reed, Art Garfunkel, and Vivian Reed. Super tajented, Melba Moore has returned to the studio to record her debut LP for Epic Records. This is her second collaboration with Gene McFadden and John Whitehead of Philadelphia In ternational Records. Melba is also starring in the Broadway hit play, "Timbuk tu." In spite of her busy schedule, Melba has been hos tess of the National Arthritis Telethon, a cast party for members of "Timbuktu," and Guest of Honor at the Copa cabana for Route Magazine. Roberta Flack was recently honored at the Xenon, a Man hattan discotheque by Atlantic Chairman Ahmet Ertegun and President Jerry Green berg. There was extensive media coverage and many celebri ties were in attendance like Cicely Tyson, Elton John, Peter Frampton, Andy War hol, David Frost, and George Faison. Mar PI liront «ingl» "If Ever I See You Again" is a top forty item and speeding up the pop and rhythm and blues charts for better position. She has recently completed a national tour and wrapping up her upcoming album, "If Ever I See You Again." The album, "Blue Lights In The Base ment," and the single "The Closer I Get To You" have both been certified gold for sales in excess of 500,000 units. Gladys Knight has a $23 million suit going her label, Buddah Records; its president Art Κass; Its Buddah Distribu tors, Arista Records and Aris ta's head, Clive Davis. She chargea that the defend ants conspired maliciously and intentionally to keep her from terminating her contract with Buddah. The suit further states that Arista and Buddah conspired to conceal facts from Ms. Knights concerning Buddah's financial position, the transfer of Buddah's con tract with her to Arista and other creditors, and the fact that the defendants contacted other record companies informing them that any nego tiations with Ms. Knight would result in legal action. Gladys now feels that her contract with Buddah is breached because the firm has stopped operating as a com pany. Buddah is currently in $6 million worth of debt and unable to obtain credit under its own name. Ms. Knight also claims that a check for $100,000 has bounced twice. Cissy Houston has been asked to audition for the part of Mahalia Jackson in an upcoming play. There have also been request for Ms. Houston to do background work for Carly Simon and Robert Gordon. Cissy made her transition from gospel to pop during the Sixties. Unfortunately her transition has not been as well received as other females like Aretha Franklin, Mavis Staples or Gladys Knight. Her talent, however, is by no means any less than theirs. Mountaineer Playhouse presents "Charlie I Dunno," a Childrens Theatre show. Pro duction dates are July 7 at 7 p.m., July 8 at 3 p.m., and July 9 at 3 p.m. in Chapell Wilson Auditorium on the ASU campus. The story evolves around a little boy who doesn't have very much confidence in him self. Lacey's wife, Joan, who annually hosts the North Caro lina Muacular Dystrophy Tele thon will also appear opening night. The opening night performance will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Associa tion. New Adventures Of Wonder Woman Will Be CBS Special A special 90-minute episode of "The New Adventures of Wonder Woman," chronicling the legendary heroine's de parture from her home on Paradise Island to join the fight for freedom and protect the secret of her Amazon culture, will be rebroadcast on Friday, July 7 at 8 p.m. on WBTV, Channel 3. Lynda Carter stars as Wonder Woman, the legend ary ageless heroine whose exploits during World War II helped make the world safe for freedom and who returns some 30 years later with an assumed identity as Diana Prince, assitant to Steve Tre vor Jr. (Lyle Waggoner) at the Inter-Agency Defense Command. Wonder Woman discovers the plane and its occupants, among them Trevor, whose NACA Intern To Spend July With Arts Councils Gail Arlene Hayes, one of four North Carolina Arts Council interns working with community arts councils this summer, will begin work with the Arts and Science Council Wednesday, July 5. The intern program is spon sored by the North Carolina Arts Council and coordinated through ASC and seven other councils across the state. Ms. Jiaye&worked last month with the Stokes County Arts Coun cil in Danbury and will spend August with the Lower Cape Fear Council for the Arts in Wilmington. During her internship in Charlotte, Ms. Hayes will work with Arts Council execu tive director Halsey North to learn the financial structure and daily operations of the Council. In addition, she will participate in preliminary planning of the 1979 ASC fund drive. A native of McPherson, Kansas, Ms. Hayes has a master of music degree < piano Arte Gallary , An exhibition in the Rowe Arts Main Gallery at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte features the work of four area artists. Mixed media by UNCC faculty member Eric Anderson, silk screens by Sam Ashworth and David Stokes and video by Steve Feldman of Spirit Square will be on display through July 21.
