Record Comer ON THE JAZZ SCENE... More new live jazz has hit the record shelves...this time from Columbia Records. A new double album which was — recorded at Montreaux, Switzerland...It's called "The Montreal!* Summit, Volume Two." Voluma One you may recall was out last year...and was quite a success. There are some great jazz names on it...Bob James, George Duke, Billy Cobham, Ralph McDon ald. Eric Gale, Bobbi Hump hrey...a total of 28 musicians contribute. Good music comes on - the open on Side One...which feat ures "Be Cool" and "Two Part Invention," and also on Side Four . . . where Bob James leads a host of musicians on his "Night Crawler." This is the third album which has been recorded at the Swiss jazz festival...an other one is out now, called the "Atlantic Family At Mont reaux." It, too, is a double album so be careful not to confuse them. The Columbia LP rates about even with the Atlantic one. rreaate Hubbard's back with a new release on Mile stone Records. His latest is "Super Blue.'' a title appro priate for most of the album, since much of the music is somber. Hubbard has a repu tation for being able to work well with other ijujsictafis... and the people fie works with here complement him very well. They include Hubert Laws on flute, Jack DeJohnette on drums, Kenny Baron on key boards, and the tenor sax of Joe Henderson to go with Hubbard's trumpet and flugel horn. Album features some nice work on "Take It to tbe Ozone," and also on "To Her Ladyship," which includes a guefll oppoornnee by George Benson. A good follow to his award winning "Bundle Of " Joy," LP which is still doing well. "Magic In Your Eyes" is what's new from Earl Klugh on United Artist Records. Earl had help putting this one together from Booker Τ Jones .. formerly the leader of Book er T. and the M G.'s Booker Τ is a keyboard man ..and so is Earl...and between the two of them they came up with some nice musi cal ideas. Earl is coming off of his most successful album..."Fin ger Paintings " Highlights of his new LP include "Cast Your Fate to the Wind," "Alicia," and "Julie." Here's a name I haven't seen on a new album in a while...Nancy Wilson has a jazzy new release for Capitol Records. She calls it "Music On My Mmd," and Nancy mixes her raditional jazzy singing style with some contemporary, electronic jazz. Nancy shows she still has a good voice...especially on "I'm Gonna Let Ya." Nancy recently had some bad luck when she was involved in a traffic accident...she had to be hospitalized for several days. SOUL SOUNDS... Two women known for sing ing what I call "The Funky Blues" are selling more al bums in Charlotte than anyone else right now. They are Betty Wright and Millie Jackson. The SOUL SHACK says it has sold about 5,000 copies Wright's "Live" album in the past month. It's the album which contains her medley "Clean Up Woman." That song, of course, is about a woman who takes men other women leave behind. And Millie's new album... "Get It Outcha System," has Millie still complainin' about being the other woman...until she gets fed up, and tells her man to take a walk...using some of the strongest lang uage I've ever heard Millie use. ' As usual, Millie's album is one long medley...with each new song indicating a change in thought. Millie's been complaining about the same thing for a long time now. James Brown recently cut an album called "Jam, 1900's ...so I guess it's not surprising that his protege band, the J.B.'s have a new release out much like his. It's called ".lam il-nifq Fever" This group has undergone quite a turnover...many of the ofd J.B.'s are now part of Bootsy's Rubber Band. But the music hasn't changed at all . . .and I guess as long as Brown is the band leader...it won't. A good buy for the price is "Reaching For the Sky," by Peabo Bryson. This young man can sing as well as anyone...and you no doubt have heard his latest single release..."Feel The Fire," which is on this album. There are some other good selections ...if you like his tingle release and also liked "Reaching For the Sky," pick the album Merchants Who Advertise In The Post Are Telling You They Appreciate Your Busi ness. Patronize Them. Ovens Auditorium "The Wiz " Opens Here July 14 "The Wiz," one of the most successful musicals In the history of the American theatre opens at Ovens Audito rium for five performances on July 14, IS, and 16. It spent 10 weeks on the road before opening on Broadway. In October of 1974 it opened in Baltimore. The good opening night perked up The Wiz's general manager who thought that the show should have been closed pre viously. During the ten week, "The Wiz" encountered many problems, but the audiences Home Canned Home canned fruit some times floats in the jar because the pack is too loose or the syrup too heavy; or because some air remains in the tis sues of the fruit after heating and processing. loved it. When the show opened in New York in December, there was no advance, no stars, minimal publicity and a glim mer of confidence among the cast. They knew that the New York Times would give them a good review, and the lines would be long, but a closing notice was posted just in case.
