Prophet'a Column ay J. M. Little • Our subject at this time is : The Effectual Call. In • Romans 8:30 we find these : words; "Moreover whom He • did predestinate, them He also . Called: and whom He called, • them He also justified; and . whom He justified, them He ' also glorified." The effectual ! call is a call from on high, it ; comes from the courts of I heaven to an elect soul. I was riding in the car just I this morning and heard a : preacher on the radio • preaching on the effectual • call. The effectual call is one • of my favorite doctrines in the : Word of God. A message on ■ this subject always blesses my : heart. f Throughout the ceaseless : ages of eternity I'll never : forget when God gave me the " effectual call. This call is a : personal call, a distinguishing : call. When the Holy Spirit : called me, He showed me I : was lost, a lost sinner. When I ^received the call, 1 was never ·: the same again. I had lived a ;· very religious life, a leader < among the young folks but I 5 'was not saved. .(A A lot of you young folks "rtoday are very religious but you are not saved. This call to ί my heart let me see for the < first time what my trouble < was, I was lost and had never :: been saved. For a long time 1 had been struggling and want ing to know what my trouble ί was. There I was seeing 1 was £ loet, a loet sinner. No soul is ever saved apart £ from the effectual call to his j: heart. When the Holy Spirit Γ; gives you the effectual call, He shows you your far distance i; from a holy God, and you ^ begin to weep and cry because ;; you are so (ar from the Lord. ÎYou come to feel the gulf ;;between you and God. Once ^:you thought you were so close :;to God, now you see you did •:not know the God of the Bible. :*The god I knew, or thought I ♦♦knew before was not the God :*of the Bible but a god of my '^imagination. What an awake -;ning it was in my heart and •-life to see that I didn't know •rthe Lord. ·' The great multitudes practi se cally one hundred percent of Î all our religious folks have J never received the effectual ; call. Therefore, you are just • wallowing in religion while : you are lost and on the road to ; one is lost, but when you come S to press a dying pillow and are ξ being driven out into eternity ΐ by demons, you will see your ξ lost condition but it will be too ζ For you woo miss the effect ■: ual call of God, it can be said > of you as it was of Judas $ Iscariot; it were better for • that man that he had never ?· I Ebony Group • 5 1 Is Developing V ïdea And Dream' Continue from Page 1. jf; McMuilen) volunteered to be g treasure-secretary and I was W left with the chairman of the **: board," Stratford said. I*· They began telling people & about their plans and recruit Ç ing friends and acquaintances j; who were interested in acting. The play was promoted I* mainly by word of mouth. The Charlotte Little 3J Theatre, where the first ptay j. was held, agreed to wait for its pay until after the play. The papers of incooperation ■> arrived on June l- 1976, •;i approximately two weeks flBftefore opening night. 3 ' And about seven months « after the Idea was perceived X the company opened to a full * house οη June 17 at the Char ? lotte Little Theatre with Cere % monies in Dark Old Men by $ Lonnie Elder III. j. "I don't really know how, .♦j but somehow we were lucky 2 and had a pecked house on ** opening night, Stratford said. uuiii must oi you nave already been added to the number that will snend eterni ty in Hell. You can't go on like you are going, if you do you are going to bust Hell wide open. The greatest thing that can happen to you as a sinner is for the Lord to give you this irrestible call. The effectual call is an irrestible call. It comes from the throne of God. You can't resist it no matter how hard you try. And as my old late pastor L.R. Shelton used to say; shall come will bring you. That's right, shall come, brought this sinner to Christ. Some of you are very angry with me and have said that you will never listen to me again. If God gives you the effectual call you'll listen to me. And if He never gives you the effectual call you are going to Hell just as straight as a martin to his gourd. You may not believe that but one day you are going to know it and feel it. when the Lora gave me that call, I saw the judgement all around me. Not only was I lost and under the judgement of a sin avenging God, but I saw the whole world lost. You see, when the Holy Spirit begins to awaken you, and teach you, He shows you eternal things, things you never dreamed of. He gives you knowledge. So, if you have ever been taught by the Spirit of God you know I'm telling the truth. I'll stake my hope of heaven on the truth I'm laying down in these messages. I know how God awakened me and brought me down in repentence and revealed Christ to my heart. Like I told that postmaster. I don't care whether I live or die, I know where I'm going. I know whose I am and Whom I serve. You can kill me if you want to, I'll go be with Christ and you'll go to Hell. Hell is the only place you can go as a Christ rejector. Listen again; "For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are Called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath choeen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God choeen, yea. and things which are not. to bring to nought things are: That no flesh should glory in His pre sence. But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctifica tion, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.(I Cor. 1:26-31) There you have it, God takes the nothings and despised of the world, like me. and saves them and my glorying is in the Lord Jesus Christ. The great est thing in all this world is just to know Christ. I d rather have Christ than tenthousand worlds of gold and silver Do you know Christ? Do you want to know Christ? Some of you say you want to know Christ. Why aren't you saved' If you truly want to know Christ you can know Him God only gives His Son to the sinner who wants Him above everything and everybody. Do you want Him? One day I was brought by the Holy Spirit to want Christ above everything under the sun, and you will too if you are ever to be saved. If you do want Christ, then the Holy Spirit is dealing with you in mercy, don't spurn the mercy of God. For your own soul's sake don't trifle with the con victions He has given you. Turn to the Lord, ask Him to turn you. My prayer is that you will be brought to know Christ as your Lord and your Saviour, Whom to know aright is life eternal. Don't turn back but follow on to know the Lord. Public Housing Is Financed By Residents Continue from Page 1. percent ~δΤ adjusted income. A year ago the family was burned out of their slum house. "I had put a lot of money into it because the landlord wouldn't fix it. I have five kids After the fire we had to sleep on floors and back porcnes of friends," sa ία me Cherry resident. In February she went back to the Housing Authority, but this time they couldn't find her file "I waited and waited It was a terrible experience Finally I just took my name off the list," said the woman. Federal guidelines for public housing state that "no quotas or other devices," except as necessitated by rent-range allocations, are to be established to limit the number of families on public assistance. However, the rent-range system itself seems to institute a quota against the poor. According to guidelines adopted by the Charlotte Housing Authority in July, 1977, a tenant with a $1200 adjusted annual income would pay no rent A person with a $10,000 adjusted income would pay 25 percent, or $208 a month gross rent, which ι *1 /ill! /w* — — Federal guidelines state th^t rent ranges are "to insure the financial solvency and stability of the program and to maintain a socio-economic cross section." In what sense then is public housing "public?" While it does not return a profit to the owner, as private housing does, public housing is not paid for by local taxes is not available to the poorest section of the population is not subsidized (except mini mally) by the federal govern ment is not built by the government (it is built by private contract ors at a profit). So who pays for public housing? Not the rich, not the middle-class homeowner, but the low income residents themselves. In the wake of Proposition 13 in California and other tax revolts, it is time to get the facts about public housing rather than rely on commonly accepted myths. Too often the poor are blamed for high taxes, when in reality they are the ones shouldering the burden. J. M.
