Hignngnm of U* special include two lengthy medley» - opening and doting - of aome of Berlin's most popular songs; a spectacular "Alexan der's Ragtime Band" product ion number featuring Sammy Davit Jr. in a dual role backed by a group of dancers; a poignant R1H« τ-ι«~ι jmmi grant segment; a rollicking, comic "This It Your Army" production number featuring Eydie and Carol; Peterson playing and Eydie singing "Cheek to Cheek;" a Brown dance medley; Burnett sing I ing the bittersweet "Supper time; " and a film clip of Bing Croeby singing "White Christ mas." The show opens with an Irving Berlin montage, as Steve, Eyche, Sammy and Carol present a rich and ex tensive medley of Us songs. Describing Berlin's begin nings as an immigrant, Steve is seen in an Ellis Island setting, recalling the poem by Emma Lazarus, "Give Me Your Tried, Your Poor," which the songwriter eventu ally set to music. Next, Sammy impersonates the legendary Ziegfeid star Bert Williams interpreting "Alexander's Ragtime Band," and then offers his own multiple dance varia tions, backed by a group of dancers. Peterson provides a piano rendition of "Cheek to Cheek," as Eydie sings. Then Eydie and Carol get together for some comedy in a "This Is Hie Army" production num ber and medley. Steve and Sammy sing and dance as "A Couple of Song and Dance Men." In a change of mood, Bur nett, on a bare stage, sings "Suppertime." Steve intro duces a Berlin classic, "White Christmas," leading into a film clip of the man who made the song famous, Bing Crosby. Brown then offers her dance interprétation of several Ber lin soojp, including "Change Partners" and "Let's Face the Music and Dance," as she is joined by two featured male dancers (Don Correia, Dennon Rawls). Steve and Eydie then close the show with a' extensive Berlin concert, culminating in "God Bleu America" and "Always." The show was produced by Gary Smith and Dwight Hernial, directed by Hemic», and written by Harry Crane. Executive producers are Steve Lawrence and Smith. The special is a Stage 2 Production in association with Smith-Hemion Productions.
