To Be Held Saturday 8th Annual Boy's Town Auction The eighth annual Boys Town Auction has been set for Saturday, August -19. The 14-hour auction will be televi sed by WBTV, Channel 3, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 11 p.m. The program will originate from the Charlotte Civic Center with regional radio and TV personalities acting as m as ters-of-ceremon ies. Proceeds from the auction will be used to support' Boys Town of North Carolina and its campus near PineviUe. Dur ing the past seven years over $700,000 has been raised to meet building and operational ex Denses. Vice President of NCNB Mortgage Corp. Vic Mills, will serve as general chairman, assisted by Joan Zimmerman. Brenda Monteith will be auc tion coordinator. When asked how the auction plans are progressing, Mills said: "Although we've recei ved donations worth approxi mately $100,000, this is well short of the $250,000 we need by auction time. However, we're making every effort to seek assistance from the busi ness community for more donations. Well over half of the operating funds for Boys Town are provided through this annual auction, and its success or failure is vital to the livelihood of Boys Town. Within the past two years, we've doubled the number of boys we care for, while pro ceeds from the auction have grown only moderately. Approximately 700 workers will be involved in this year's auction. At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 18, the night before the auction, WBTV will present an . "Auction Countdown," a pre view of some of the merchan dise that will be offered for bid, and happenings that will take place during the day and night of the Auction. Boys Town of North Caro lina is licensed as a child caring institution by the State Department of Welfare and is open to boys from eight to sixteen. WBTV To Air Westchester Classic Andy North, defending champion and 1978 U.S. Open champion, British Open win ner Jack Nicklaus, Andy Bean, Tom Watson, and other superstars in professional golf are expected to compete for the 960,000 first prize when the ctoeing rounds in the $300,000 Westchester Classic are broadcast by CBS Sports, Sat urday, August 19 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, August20 at 4 p.m. on WBTV, Chumel 3. CBS Sports broadcasters Vin Scully, Pat Summerall, Ben Wright, NBA superstar Rick Barry, and former U.S. Open champion Ken Venturi will provide the commentary from the Westchester Country Club "West" course in Harri son, N.Y. Jack Whitaker will join the broadcast team for the Sunday telecast Live coverage of the final 36 boles of competition in the 72-hole event will include play at the par 4, 381-yard 13th bole; the par 3, 144-yard 14th hole; the par 4, 470-yard 15th hole; the par 3, 204-yard 18th hole; the par 4, 353-yard 17th bole; and the par 5, 509-yard 18th bole. Among the other top 60 money winners on the PGA Tour who have indicated they will play are Tom Weiskopf, Jerry Pate, Jim Simons, Mil ler Barber, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Ben Crenshaw, and Lee Elder.
