To Be Held Saturday
8th Annual Boy's Town Auction
The eighth annual Boys
Town Auction has been set for
Saturday, August -19. The
14-hour auction will be televi
sed by WBTV, Channel 3,
beginning at 9 a.m. and ending
at 11 p.m. The program will
originate from the Charlotte
Civic Center with regional
radio and TV personalities
acting as m as ters-of-ceremon
ies.
Proceeds from the auction
will be used to support' Boys
Town of North Carolina and its
campus near PineviUe. Dur
ing the past seven years over
$700,000 has been raised to
meet building and operational
ex Denses.
Vice President of NCNB
Mortgage Corp. Vic Mills, will
serve as general chairman,
assisted by Joan Zimmerman.
Brenda Monteith will be auc
tion coordinator.
When asked how the auction
plans are progressing, Mills
said: "Although we've recei
ved donations worth approxi
mately $100,000, this is well
short of the $250,000 we need
by auction time. However,
we're making every effort to
seek assistance from the busi
ness community for more
donations. Well over half of
the operating funds for Boys
Town are provided through
this annual auction, and its
success or failure is vital to
the livelihood of Boys Town.
Within the past two years,
we've doubled the number of
boys we care for, while pro
ceeds from the auction have
grown only moderately. While
