CBS Schedules
“The Clarence
Hammond” Story
Warner Bros. Television, in
association with Blue Greene
Productions, is developing
“The Clarence Hammond
Story” as a two-hour motion
picture for the CBS Television
Network, it was announced
today by Alan Shayne, Presi
dent of WB-TV Programming.
Producers Blue Andre and
Vanessa Greene have set John
McGreevey, who won an
Emmy in 1977 for his teleplay
of “Judge Horton and the
Scottsboro Boys,” to write the
Hammond teleplay, which is
the true story of a 19-year-old
black youth from South Caro
lina who was bom deaf and
blind because of a mease Is
epidemic during the 1950’s,
and who went on to study at

the school made famous by
Helen Keller

ial program in computer tech
nology at the Massachusetts

In London, they finished
their last highly successful
European tour with an out
standing performance at the
Royal Cafe before a highly
select group of invited guests.
They have also starred in a
number of plays including "I
Heard That,” “No Time Fir
Coconuts” and "Good Morn
ing America.” All that re
mains for the) Los
Angeles-based trio of PatHod
sea. Denita James and Jessica
Smith is to* receive recognit
ion in the States as one of
contemporary music’s most
captivating vocal groups.
They all grew up with gospel
music as their base and all
three lathes soon worked their
way into a variety of diverse
musical areas which leaves
them somewhere in theimfcldle
of the dod-R ft B spectrum.

They have enjoyed their own
television showcase and
appeared on other specials,
including Ann Margaret,
Richard Pryor, Diahann Car
roll, Charo and Chad Everett
aa well as number at commer
cials, including Budwelser

kett, Cheech and Chong, Jose
Feliciano, The Dells, and Rod
McKuen in worldwide tours,
performed as background vo
calists with many of these
performers.
"What Have You Done For
Love?” is their fourth album
and their second London Re
cords. Before releasing last
year’s well-received "What's
On Your Mind" LP, featuring
the top disco hit, "Since 1 Fell
For You,” they recorded “In
credible” and “Power In Your
Love,” all of which received
great critical acclaim.
“What Have You Done For
Love?” brings the group to a
new pinnacle. It incorporates
all the artistic knowledge
gained through years of ex per
ience in a joyous vocation. It
features a highly charged
dance side and a more roman
tic side that should appeal to a
diverse group of listeners
The "seductive side” as the
girls refer to it features a
number of ballads, including
the single, "You Know Who
You Are." Of special interest

Jazz Ensemble
To Perform Here
The sound of contemporary
jazz comes to UNCC when the
“Blue Spectrum" jazz en
semble performs in the Rowe
Recital Hall, September 27 at
8:00 p.m. The band is com
prised of 18 accomplished
musicians who have deep
roots in professional jazz
"Blue Spectrum" spotlights
several of its own vocalists
and instrumentalists in per
forming the today sounds of
Maynard Ferguson, Don Men
za, Chick Corea and Jay
Chattaway. The ensemble
travels throughout the Atlan
tic Coast Area and has recent
ly made its first appearance in
the annual Hampton Kool Jazz
A jazz workshop will also be
held that afternoon at 4:00
p.m. in the Rowe Recital hall.
The concert is free of charge
and the public is cordially
invited.

Navy Band
The 4-H Clubs and WBTV
will co-host a performance by
the U S. Navy Band at Ovens
Auditorium on Thursday,
October 5th at 8 p.m.
The band is appearing in
Charlotte in conjunction with
its annual fall tour, which this
year encompasses the South
east. In addition to the Thurs
day night concert, there will
also be a matinee perform
ance for students in area high
schools. Outstanding band
members in these schools will
be invited to play with the U.S.
Navy Band
Officially dubbed the ‘U.S.
Navy Band” by Calvin Cool
idge in 1925, the group has long
had a distinguished musical
reputation. In 1940, the
American Bandmasters Asso
ciation recognized it as the
outstanding band in America
and bestowed upon it the now
famed motto, "The World’s
Finest." ‘No other military
band has since been so honor
ed. Over the years, the band
has kept pace with the chang
ing world of music. Conductor
Commander Ned Muffley,
Conductor of the band, feels
that the Navy Band should
encompass all the musical
tastes of the American public.
This feeling is obvious in the
program to be performed in
Charlotte
