w West Trade Street Post Office % ■ r Is An Eyesore Of Conjested Traffic U.. C.W. «"·« m ^,.rn wuaWM U1 Poet SUff Writer The Weet Trade Street Pott Office in downtown Charlotte ■ is an eyesore of con jested : traffic during the morning j rush hours. Just ask some of j the people who go there! "It has been very difficult to : find parking space. Some t times tAere woe days I had to drive three or four blocks to park my car. Other times people have created traffic jams waiting for legal parking spaces. Perhaps, if we were allowed to park on both sides of this one-way street from 8-9 a.m., that would ease the problem and leave two lanes for flowing traffic," suggested Joseph Crosby of Druid Circle. Mint Street near the post office, was made a one-way street almost a year ago to connect with Poplar—another one-way street. This was done to create better flow and carry an increased volume of traff ic, according to a spokesman from Charlotte's traffic engi neering department. Parking was eliminated on the left side of Mint Street when it became one-way. The Post Office is attempt ing to alii via te the problem by requesting that customers be allowed to park on the left side of Mint Street during specific hours in the morning. "It's bad, give us some where to park. I have been coming nere for 15 years and every year it gets worse," commented James Johnson of LaSalle Street. ' "We will go to the city and see if we can get some relief from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.; the Checks When Buying Furniture niiicnuiio arc uuying new furniture at a pace that furni ture factories are having a hard time keeping up with. How can you be sure of getting the best quality furni ture for your money? , Here are some construction — tips to look for form agricultu ral extension specialists at NCSU: Be sure the furniture stands squarely on the floor and does not tip or rock. Check to see that finishes are durable, smooth and even evenly applied. Make sure joints are sub wen aiiu upciaic caaii^ ctuu smoothly. Get all the information you ' can about unexposed parts. Look at the furniture from 1 the back and underneath. The 1 back finish is especially im- " portant if you plan to use the furniture out in the room away from the wall. Check to see if the decora tive aspects contribute to the furniture's good design in stead of being added as an | afterthought. For the delivery of THE CHARLOTTE POST in your neighborhood, call the Circul ation Department 1 julk of the business people are here at that time," stated Willie Stafford, spokesman for he poet office. " ' us somewhere to park. 1 have been coming here for 15 years and every year it gets worse," commented James Johnson of La Salle Street. Plans are underway to ease he problem of overcrowded raffic in another manner. "What we're planning to do s look for a site for a new iptown facility -one city block long with ample parking space," Stafford said. He ex plained, "The new post office will be located in an area bounded by Tenth Street, Gra ham, Morehead and McDo well Street." Once the location has been selected, post office personnel are committed to moving as quickly as possible according to Stafford. He requested that in the meantime, customers by pat ient while attempts are being made to alliviate the problem. RE-ELECT gus ECONOMOS N.C.
