In the race for sheriff, voters must decide between Republican incumbent Donald Stahl and Democratic chall enger John Kelly Wall. The Board of County Com-, missioners has openings for five members.. Candidates seeking that office are: Demo crats Hugh Casey, L.C. Cole man, Liz Hair, Tom Ray, and Bob Walton. Republican can dictâtes include William Booe, Ed Peacock, Sam Smith, Ann Thomas and Paul Whitfield. For U.S. Senator, voters may choose either Democrat John Ingram or Republican Jesse Helms. In the state the Senate race, four candidates must be selec ted from Democrats Fred Alexander, Cecil Jenkins, Craig La wing, Carolyn Mat his; Republicans Thomas Doyle Ghent; and the Unaffi liated contender James Doyle that office will be running unopposed. Democrat Richard Ewin will oppose Republican Joe Cage) in one contest for a judgeship of the Court of Appeals. Candidates Burley Mitchell, Jr., John Webb, and Harry Martin are running unopposed for that same office. Democrat James Lanning and Republican J. Myers Cole will vie for the position of judge of the District Court for the 26th District. District Attorney Peter Gil christ will run unopposed as will the candidates for Judges of the Superior Court from all districts except the 18th Dist rict. Democrat Edward Wash ington will ran against ■*" Republican Darl Fowler. 1 he choice of clerk for the Superior Court is between Democrat R. Max Blackburn and Republican John Kester. Four non-partisan candi dates will be seeking the office of Soil and Water Conserva tion Supervisor. These candi dates are: Larry R. Brafford. Sam Cesena, Claude Kuyken dall and Kenneth Westmore land. MçDuffie. Eight openings exist in the state House of Representa tives this year. This candi dates seeking office are Dem ocrats Louise Brennan, Ruth Easter ling, G us Ecooomoe, Jo Graham Foster, Parks Helms, Gerald Hester, Ben Tison, Parks Todd; and Republicans Joe Beard, Marilyn Bissell, Alan Jaffre and Roy Spoon. The race for a repfœenta: tive from the ninth Congress ional District will feature three—candidates-Democrat Charles Maxwell, Republican James Martin'and Libertarian F. W. Pasotto. For Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Democrat David Britt will verse Liber tarian Michael Read. Don Stahl, the man .has long been concerned with the people of Meck lenburg County. He has been a Little League Baseball Coach. President of Midget Football League, and on the Board of Directors of Boy's Town. He is a Mason, a Shriner, and an active Presbyterian. Don and Alice Stahl have three sons.
