Smith University has a new Miss Alumni for 1978-79-she is Julie Garvin, a . Garvin was sponsored by the winning group in the ■, Alumni Association’s fund i raising competition, headed by Clyde H. Brawn Every year groups from the association attempt to raise funds through membership dues. The four groups each sponsored one contestant. The group that raised the most money had its contestant be come Miss Alumni. This year the Alumni Assoc iation raised $15,000 in their membership drive. The larg . est amount raised by a single group was $7,000, raised by Brown’s group. Miss Alumni, Julie Garvin, was selected as a contestant because she had been involved in fundraising activities for Secretary of the Charlotte Chapter of the Alumni Assoc - iation. Ms. Garvin is a resident of Charlotte and teaches physi cal education in the Gaston County Public Schools. The group, chaired by Brown has won the fundraising contest for the past ll years. Brown was once again the .recipient of the Boo Murphy rSsaKtoa ■ of money. Brown has won this award for 11 years.
