December 7 (repeating Saturday, "Decern ber 9 at S p.m. ), a group of jazz and blues greats will show television audiences what hap pens when they get together to jam amid the splendor of the Mentreux Jazz Festival. Join ing the central figure for Ray Charles at Montreux will be a select group of some of Charles' old cronies who just happen to be among the best iazz musicians m the world. 1 he program will be a special presentation on most public television stations as part of a ' nationally-coordinated public awareness drive. In the peaceful beauty of the Swiss settings, the essential, .adorned Ray Charles will join his friends in a two-hour feast for the eyes and ears of the television audience. Join ing Charles will be David Newman on tenor sax; George Du vivier on bass; Micky Rok er on the drums; Kenny Bur: reli m. guitar; and Esther Phillips on the vocal cords. This is not exactly an every day pick-up group! In this tribute to the man who has defined rhythm and blues for much of today's generation, many of Ray Charles' hits will be played, including such popular class ics as "Georgia," "I Got a Woman," "Hallelujah, I Just Love Her So," "Stormy Mon day," "Unchain My Heartj'r" "Cryin· Time," "Ruby" and "It's All Rights in the spirit m which the whole .performance is conducted, Charles does a simple, 12-min ute medley of his hits at the end of the program, with no back-up.
