Scott White Named WBTV News Director Cullie M. Tarleton, Vice President and General Mgr. of WBT and WBCY, has announced the appoint ment of Scott R. White to the position of News Director. White comes to Charlotte from WKIX/WYYD in Raleigh where he was Direc tor of News and Public Affairs. During his six-year tenure at WKIX/WYYD, White garnered numerous prestigious awards including the 1977 Edward R. Murrow Scott R. White Award from the national Radio-Television News Directors Association. A native of Albion, Mich., White attended Western Michigan University of Kalamazoo. He began hi· career at the campus radio station and later worked for WKFR Radio in Battle Creek and WKNR Radio in Detroit. Scott White and his wife, Linda, have two sons—Jeff who is seven, and Todd, age two. Yvonne Elliman To Appear A ' ί· In Hawaii Five-O "Musical" Yvonne Ε 11i m a η and James Darren guest star in singing and acting roles in a "first" for "Hawaii Five 0," a two-part episode rich in rock singing ajid disco dancing—both integral ele ments leading to an explo sive plot—to be presented on Thursdays, December 28, and January 4, at 9 p.m. on WBTV, Channel 3. , Ross Martin, Nehemiah Persoff, Richard Dimitri and Antony Ponzini also guest star in the episodes. Ο Chief Steve McSarrett, played by series star Jack Lord, the dceaded Hawaiian crime syndicate Kumu, and the organized crime syndi cate from the West Coast. In Part I, Ray Santoro, a member of the Kumu, kills Bernie Adams, a member of the mainland syndicate, in order to force his way into partnership with an unwill ing Sonny Kanekoa, the owner of a flourishing dis cotheque. Santoro, im pressed by the singing tal ent of Sonny's sister, Yvonne, tries to take over the management of her from her current manager songwriter, Johnny Munroe (Darren). Munroe moves to defend himself, and Yvonne realizes that they'll soon be in the middle of what she term» "World War III." McGarrett is investigat ing the murder of Adams and he suspects that what he sees is merely the "tip of a very dirty iceberg." Prominent in the thow are Misa Elliman's recorded hits, "In a Stranger's Arms" and "I Can't Get You Out of My Mind," songs which have also been recorded by Darren. The disco music featured on the program are original compositions by John Cacavas. Yvonne Elliman appeared on Broadway as Mary Mag dalene in the hit musical "Jesus Christ Superstar." She recorded th« original cast album of the show and appeared in productions all over the world. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her recre ation of the role in the mo tion picture version of the . play. Later, Miss Elliman recorded with Eric Clapton and sang with his band. In 1977 she was awarded the Don Kirshner Rock Award as Best Female Vocalist. James Darren's credits in clude the motion pictures, "The Guns of Navarone," "Diamond Head," "Let No Man Write My Epitaph" and "Operation Madball." He has appeared in night clubs from Las Vegas, to London and has just re corded a new song, "Let Me Take. Tou in My Arms Again."
