William Lee Jr., pastor of Silver Mount, stated that the Workshop is open to all churches and no cost is involved. Sister Leitha Adams is Silver Mount’s Missions president. Wassaw, 37, is a native of Uganda. An accomplished artist in graphic art, oil pain ting, architectural design, sculpture and batik (a tech nique of dyeing fabrics by using was to cover parts of a design not to be eyed), which is the latest addition to his discipline. He is also responsible for export ing the batiks from Africa, “getting the exhibit off the ground and trying to find a market” said Drew. “In the beginning 1 incur red a loss” said Drew “because of the high price range. But, because of the skill and labor that goes into such works it would be hard to reduce the price.” He said that he was working on several ways to make the batiks cheaper. On way was not to frame them so the price would be “geared toward the average black american-those who enjoy this type of art but can not afford it.” Drew said that Wasswa will be able to come to the United States in May where “he will be traveling to art departments in black col leges across the United States.” Drew explained Wasswa works to be all of women -women dancing, full of spirit and rhythm - basket weavers, hard at work and women baring the burden of motherhood. He said that Wasswa is down to earth, practical and a man responsi ble for his own actions.
