The past 42 years haven’t
dimmed the delightful mem
ory of Cary Grant and Con
stance Bennett as the wacky
ghosts in “Topper,” but
Kate Jackson and hubby
Andy Stevens are going to
try and do it better. Ms.
Jackson has optioned the
1937 comedy classic as part
of a $6 million deal with
ABC. She'll produce the re
make herself.
Another soon-to-be hus
band-and-wife team, Susan
Saint James and rock’s
Steve Stills plan to co-star in
a film, sometime after they
get the business of marriage
settled. Again, it’ll be wife in
the producer’s chair. Stills,
who’s never acted, is doing
the music.
Steve Stills isn't the only
rock musician making the
move to motion pictures.
Robbie Robertson, who
brought his magnetism to
bear on screen in “The Last
Waltz,” the documentary of
The Band's final concert,
will star in “Carney.” Ro
bertson is producing the
film, which stars Jodie Fos
ter as a teen-ager who gets
involved with two passing
carnival, workers. Gary
Bnsey plays the other chap.
In MiinwM (a* nnilnn in
Roberston’s film, the former
Band member will produce
Busey’s first album, aside
from the “Buddy Holly”
soundtrack.
Fred Gwynne has been
carving out a Broadway ca
reer for himself recently,
after years on TV in “Car M,
Where Are You?” and “The
Munsters.” Now he's head
ing back to feature films.
Gwynne has just joined the
cast of Orion Pictures’,
"Simon,” starring Alan
Arkin. Marshall Brlckman,
occasional writing partner
ofWoody Allen, wrote and is
directing the flick. A little
known fact about Gwynne is
that he has been writing and
illustrating children’s books
since 1956. His latest is “A
Chocolate Mouse for
Dinner,” published by Dut

Vegas.” Peter Boyle is set
to co-star.
Producer Robert Stigwood
has plans for “Grease II,”
starring Andy Gibb. The
baby Gibb brother also
seems to be the top con
tender for the role of Che
Guevera in the film version
of “Evita,” which has yet to
reach the States as a play,
following its tumultuous suc
cess in London.
People who thought Kurt
Russell an unlikely Elvis
Presley prior to his rave
performance on TV, will
choke when they hear John
Davidson is the first choice
of Colonel Tom Parker to
play Presley on the big
screen. Parker has joined up
with hot-shot manager Jerry
Weintraub on the project,
and both are talking to
Davidson, who just happens
to be one of Weintraub’s
