There are 12 teams in the league which begins its regu lar season on April 21. They are the Hoskins Giants, the Charlotte Hawks, the Meck lenburg Hornets, the Davidson Jets, the Northside Bombers, the Royal Bums, the Charlotte Mets, the Union County Dod gers, the Charlotte Bummers and the Kings Mountain A’s. The Morris Field Rangers have been in the champion ship game of the league for the past five years. That should tell you something. The Mecklenburg Orioles headed by former CharlotU Hornet great Minnie Mendoza are another team that should be at the top of the league. The Rangers get an early test of their strength in the Union County Dodger tourna ment at Walter Bickett Sta dium in Monroe on April 14 and 15. On the 14th, the Morris Field Rangers will play the Lancas ter Tigers at 4 p.m. At 7 p.m. the Union County Dodgers will play Concord. Hie winners play on Sunday at 4. The six teams in the YWCA Basketball League finished a 10-week season at the Park Road YWCA gym. C State ORANGEBURG-South Carolina State College, which recently won the A1AW small college championship, has announced the signing of one of the top female basketball players in the Augusta, Ga., area. Sandra Collins, a 5-6 guard at Butler High in Augusta, will attend S. C. State on a grant in-aid next season, according to Lady Bulldog head coach Willie Simon. Collins, who will play at the point for S.C. State, averaged 21 points per game to lead Butler to a 14-7 record and into the region semifinals. In 1978 she helped Butler to the semifinals of the state Class AAAA tournament and was named Georgia CSRA (Central Savannah Region Area) Player of the Year.
