O' * * •••»-« V unniA; i ic< I v^i 1 Prophet's (.olumn “Tithing” by Jim Little BA SS Kor quite some tune I have wanted to bring a message on "tithing There is so much twisting of the Scriptures today ami it is being done by uncalled and untaught preachers and teachers God's Word says that all of the Lord's children are taught of the Lord t Isa 54 :13). The believer loves the Word of God and he loves the Lord Jesus Christ Listen if you can "He that is of God heareth God's words, ye therefore hear them not. because ye are not of God i Jn 8:47). Everything in the universe, in Heaven, on earth, in Hell, or under Hell, belongs to God "The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof, the world, and they that dwell therein < Ps 24:1). Now get this: Behold, all souls are mine;" < Ez 18:4 "Kor every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills 1 know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine <Ps 50:10-11). Let me tell you something friends, you and I don't own one thing! Every thing belongs to God You may hold the earthly title or deed, but it still belongs to God Everyone, rich or poor, is commanded by God to tithe The tithe is one tenth of all your income. "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye'all the lifKes into’the storehouse < Malachi 3:8-10). We see in this Scripture that not only is tithing to be done by the individual, but also by the nation. Every nation is to give God the tithe. Every level of government, federal, state, and local God says you are to tithe. Failing to do so, you are robbing God and when you as an individual or nation refuse to tithe, you are automati cally putting yourself under a curse! That is one of the main reasons why this nation is in such a financial mess today! You are robbing God by not tithing1 Every agency is supposed to tithe nre quebuon arises, shere am I to bring the tithe? Where do you worship? It is not necessarily where you attend church, but where Christ preached and reveal ed to your hearts. Some of you have said that our messages going out each week that you read are setting forth Christ to y< heart Well, then you are to . 1 in the tithe here. Since yo i s; v I am declaring the truth ,.s it is in Christ and you can't hear the truth in your church, then here is the place you are to send in the tithe '■'■'hen I was brought under Holy Spirit Conviction, I saw that everything belonged to God and I would never be saved as long as I was with holding God's tithe. Let me say this: no sinner will ever get saved as long as he robs God by not surrendering the tithe The tithe is-HOLY unto the LOKD fLev 27:30>. Now someone will jump up and say. Brother Little, that was in the Cid Testament under the Law. Well, bless your heart, it was. But did you ever know that Abraham gave tithes to Melrhizedek long before the l-au was given? You didn't know that, did you? (see Gen Mi A preacher told me some time ago that tithing was not for us today because the tithes were to be brought in to the storehouse and there are no storehouses today The store house is where Christ is preached The reason you won't tithe is because you have a covetous heart and you have never been broken at the feel of Christ The Scripture says the tithe isHOLY unto the I.OKI) That is, it is sacred, and you are going to recognize it as sacred unto the Lord before you are ever saved J.M. Little —>v r~‘ “p , i am too poor to tithe, 1 only receive a small pension or welfare check. Well. God is not going to change His Word for you No man is too poor to tithe. To withhold the tithe is to rob God of that which is HOLY unto Him If your income is only a dime, then one penny is HOLY unto the Lord. Remember: He that is of God, heareth God's Word. If you argue against the tithe, then your argument is with God alone and you'll have to meet Him! For Scripture references on tithing and God’s ownership see Lev. 27:30,32; Gen. 28:20; Gen 14:20; Gen 28:22; Prov 3:9-10; Mai. 3:8-10; Numb. 18:21; 2 Chron. 31:5; Neh 10:37; Heb 7:5; and I Cor 16:2. The argument also has been put forth that tithing is not taught in the New Testament. You listen to the Word of God; “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not leave the other un done" (Matt. 23:23). So the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, put His stamp of approval on tithing. And you will obey your Lord in tithing before you are saved and after you are saved! If you hear the Word of the Lord, then you obey. Are you in obedience to Christ? Do you know Him? The reason men in and out of the pulpit won’t tithe is because you have a covetous heart that has never learned God's ownership and the Lord ship of Jesus Christ. You may make excuses but God will not accept one of them. You may plead the Law as an excuse but that won't hold Then if those of old tithed under the l-aw surely you ought to tithe and you say you are under grace Before the Lord saved me. He settled the money issue in my life. One day I was up at the bank and I made that statement to an officer there. If I wanted to take some money, every opportunity is available to me because much money is given to me in cash and with my name on the checks But the Lord Himself settled the money issue in my life long before He revealed Christ-to my heart. Thou^ sands of dollars have come through my hands since the Lord laid this work on us. Just recently I was going over the large figure with someone. You may not trust me with your money, but my Lord trusts me with His money. It’s all the Lord's money anyway. Not one penny has stuck to my fingers. I know there are preachers who are hogs after money. Ninety-nine and nine tenths percent of our preachers have never learned the Lordship of Jesus Christ. I am satisfied the Lord is going to accomplish all He pleases in my life. And no one is going to stop me until He has finished with me. There is not a disease abroad, a gun loaded, or a knife tempered that is going to snuff .out my life until my Lord is through with my testimony. The Lord is going to get His message out even if you don’t give to support it. May the Lord turn you unto Himself. Roses Difficult But Can Be Worth Effort OJ n wuy U pcnurcn Special to the Poet Hoses are not the easiest flowers to grow, but the use of a few principles of rose culture can help assure suc cess. N C Agricultural Extension Service horticulturists sug gest the following: Select a well-drained site where your roses will receive full sun for at least half the day. The best soil for roses is a rich, clay loam, slightly acid with a high organic content. Hoses can be planted in early spring in all areas of North Carolina They can also be planted in the fall In areas where the temperature sel dom falls below five degrees. When setting the plants, dig the hole large enough for the roots to spread out in their natural position Make the hole deep enough so the "nub" or crook in the main stem where the plant was budded is one inch above the surface after the soil settles The soil mix in the planting hole should be about one-fourth peat moss or well rotted cow manure Roses need large quantities of nutrients, and cow manure is one of the best fertilizers you can use On established planting* work two or three inches of cow manure into the soil a round the plants in early spring When the first flower buds appear, broadcast two to three pounds of 8-8-8 ferti lizer or the equivalent per 100 square feet. Work the fertili zer into the soil and then water thoroughly so the fertilizer will soak down to the roots. If you have mulched your roses, you can apply the fertilizer on top of the mulch, if you will water thoroughly afterwards. Continue applying 88-8 at four-week intervals until early fall. Liquid fertilizer is practi cal for roses, but be careful. It is concentrated and can injure the plants if not properly diluted. ! Acker Wins II ncJergraduate Paper Award David W.
