Bertha Maxwell ...Convention itpeaker J(^U Seniors Will Hear Dr. Maxwell Valerie Lynch Post Staff Writer Dr. Bertha Maxwell, a JCSU graduate, will be guest speaker at a senior class convocation 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 23 in the University Church on the JCSU campus. The former Vice President for Administra tive Affairs and Planning at JCSU will speak on the theme: "Where Do We Go From Here." Presently Dr. Maxwell is professor of Afro-Amei -e and African Studies and Director of the Afro-Ameri can and African Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has served on numer ous panels and boards on a local and national level. Her community service work includes WBT Black Advisory Board, Mental Health Center Advisory Board, Charlotte Arts and Science Board and Co Developer-Afro American Cultural and Service Center. She has also served as principal of several Mecklenburg County Schools. Dr. Maxwell received her Masers degree in Education from UNC apd1a,Ph.D. in ciiprifluluoi.r'development,' • Educational Administration from Union Graduate School in Yellow Springs, Ohio. All students, faculty, staff and community are invited to attend. Irwin School Plans Show And Sell Show and Sell, Irwin School’s annual Halloween extravaganza, will take place this year on Saturday, October 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. The event is sponsored by Ir win's PTSA and is their ma jor annual fund-raiser. As in past years, a big feature of Show and Sell will be the auction, from 5 to 7 p.m., with items such as ap pliances, works of art, per sonal services, and resort vacations going for a fraction of their value. This year’s auctioneers will include city councilman Harvey Gantt, elections supervisor Bill Culp, and salesman/play ground designer Charles Caldwell, plus a special mystery guest.
