According to Dr. Lemar foster. 3rd Vice Moderator for the Association, the following resolutions were adopted: 1. Sendai Concerns - statement of Purpose: "While we do not advance a social gospel, we do adhere :o a gospel with social implications and hereto we resolve ourselves to support and encourage others to Mip|>ort ways of alleviating societal ills. Among these lieing the plight of the elder ly, child abuse, misuse of alcohol and drugs, rising crime rate, rising divorce rate, the deterioration of the family unit and the home, housing, inflation and poll ution." 2. Political Action-State ment of Purpose: "As it was the province of the Prophets of old to stand in the marketplace and expound • i|mn political situations as they affected God’s people. tiiat. it is uu umutrrpu ..pon us to speak out on Mime major issues that dis turb our peace: A. District I' presentation - Whereas the question of district representation was liscussed during the Demo cratic Primary and whereas uo support district > 'i ii dentation. N.C., according to Dr. Foster. The theme for the Session was "Return To God.” The Association raised *8,741.56 for its local and state mis sion projects. This year alone they contributed in excess of *43,000 for state missions. During the Session, Rev. F. G. Lowery, Pastor Emeritus of First Mount Zion, was honored for 25 years of service to the Association as 1st Vice M_1_a_ The Officers of the Association for 1980 are Dr. J. M. NEW BETHLEHEM The ~TouTh of New Bethlehem Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God will he sponsoring a Musical Program on Sunday, October 24 at 3 p.m. at the :hurch. Music will be •endered by the Youth Dhoir. Ms. Carol Gray is the :aptain of the youth of the :hurch. New Bethlehem, located it 421 E. 18th Street, is restored by Rev. J. R. Caldwell. GREATER MT. SINAI The Ushers of Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church will celebrate their 46th Anniversary Sunday, October 21 at 4 p.m. at the church. «***********«> Hev. J. B. Humphrey ... Association moderator l)r. C. V. Owens, pastor of First Mount Zion Baptist Church, will preach the annual sermon. He will be accompanied by his congregation and choirs who will provide the music for the occasion. "The Usher Board of the Church is one of the strong est auxiliaries of the church and is much deserving of this special day of recogni tion," said Rev. N.E. Kerry, pastor of Greater Mt. Sinai. Ms. Nora McDowell serves as president of the Usher Board and L. W. Taylor is vice-president. Ms. Su9ie Norton and Ms. Christine Steel are the Youth Supervisors. Rev. Kerry said that this celebration promises to be one of the highlights of the year and exends an invitation to friends and the public in general to come and share with Mt. Sinai on this grand occasion. Mt. Sinai is located on 1243 West Boulevard. MT. MORIAH The Gospel Choir of Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church will celebrate their Anniversary on Sunday, October 28 at 4 p.m. at the church. The Frieson Chanters of Nazareth Primitive Baptist Church will be the special singing guests of the Gospel Choir during this Musical Concert. Formerly the Ypung Adult Choir up until two years ago, the group has rendered almost forty years of musical services to Mount Moriah. The Gospel Choir is under the direction of Melvin Davis and Mrs. Sandra Plummer Samuels. Mrs. Carolyn Ledbetter Davis is the president. Elder Thomas W. Samuels is the pastor of Mt. Moriah, located at 747 West Trade Street. AME ZION CHURCHES The North Charlotte Dis trict of AME Zion Churches will observe their annual National Laymen’s Day, Sunday, October 21 at 3 p.m. at Clement Memorial AME Zion Church, 2207 n************* Newell Road. The speaker for this occasion will be Rev. Tom Sewell. All the Laymen of the AME Zion Churches will be participating — includes 15 churches in the District. Dr. C. D. Rippy, a Professor at Johnson C. Smith University, is Presi dent of the Layman's Council. Dr. F. M. Allen is the Presiding Elder of the North Charlotte District. Clement Memorial is pastored by Rev. E. L. White. SIMPSON-GILLESPIE Simpson-Gillespie United Methodist Church will hold their World Order Service this Sunday, October 21 during the 11 a.m. worship service. The World Order Service is strictly a United Methodist Observance worldwide in which the churches try to do some thing to establish peace in the world, according to Rev. Joseph S. Haskins, pastor of Simpson-Gillespie. Beginning October 22-25, Revival Services will be held at Simpson-Gillespie. Neighborhood churches - pastures, unuirs ana congre gations - will be participa ting in the services each night which will begin at 7:30 p.m. On Monday night Rev. A. Moore of the New Hope Baptist will be leading the Revival Service; Tuesday, Rev. A. W. Stowe of Rock Hill United Methodist Church; Wednesday, Rev. James A. Frieson of Nazareth Primitive Baptist Church; Thursday, Rev. John F. Epps of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church; and Friday, Rev. O. J. Hatcher of Zion Primitive Baptist Church. Annual Homecoming Services for Simpson Gillespie will be held on Sunday, October 28. Rev. Haskins will deliver the message during the 11 a.m. worship service. The Fellowship Homecoming Dinned will begin at 12:45 p.m. At 3 p.m. the Mass Choir will present a Musical Concert. The public is cordially invited to attend all of the services. Simpson-Gillespie is located on 540 Winston Street. FRIENDSHIP Friendship Baptist Church will begin their annual Revival Services this Sunday, October 21 and will" continue through Friday, October 26. On Sunday morning. Rev. J. Lee Foster, the guest Evangelist, will start the week of services and will be preaching each evening — Sunday thru Friday — at 7:30 p.m. He is'the pastor of ************* First Baptist Church. Hamilton Park, Dallas. Texas. The guest soloist during Revival will be Ms. Georgia Guest, soloist for the General Baptist and National Baptist Conventions.
