To Feature Brown
Perry Brown, owner of
Factory Outlet World near
Waxhaw, has never been one
to stick with tradition. ..even in
his business. Folks warned
that no one would ever travel
out to a backwoods school
house to buy home furnish
ings. But after 10 years.
Brown's successful business...
with both a far out address
and far out approach to
advertising..has proven them
wrong.
In fact, he’s become quite
well-known for his mad-cap
commercials produced at
WRET’s Charlotte studios.
Brown creates, writes and
"stars” in all of them. (The
production crew at TV-36
never knows what he’ll come
up with next!)
Now that local fame is about
to spread nationwide, when
two of his most unorthodox
commercials will be featured
on NBC’s Real People, sched
uiea 10 air Wednesday, Octo
ber 31 at 8 p.m. on WRET.,
Several months ago Wendy
Benson, research director for
Real People which is produced
out of Burbank, Calif., sent
word to NBC affiliate stations
asking for samples of funny
local commercials. Since
Perry Brown’s Factory Outlet
World spots seemed made-to
order for the network’s crazy
show, TV-36 forwarded tapes.
Evidently it was love at first
sight...Real People wanted to
see more of Perry Brown.
So, when the October 31
show offers its “most funny
furniture commercials” seg
ment; Brown's will be two of
the five selected to include
Richmond, Knoxville, and
New Orleans stores. For
viewers with a good memory,
his soon-to-be-nationally-fam
ous commercials are his
“Geraldine” imitation
(Brown himself of course) and
the one where he suspended

himself from a crane!
If there ever was any doubt,
there shouldn’t be now...Real
People does indeed use “real
people!’’
