" Bob Johnson Lunocs1 nwtftiM! DINNER PERFORMANCE .“Camelot,” the great musical hit based by the authors of “My Fair Lady” on T.H. White’s “The Once and Future King,” ended a successful stint at the Pineville Dinner Theatre last week. This delightful play featured Ian Stuart who was recently seen in a national touring production of the Tony Award-winning play “DA” as King Arthur. Elizabeth King, who made her operatic debut in 1976 with Sara Caldwell’s Opera Company of Boston in the leading role of the princess in Offenbach’s “Voyage to the Moon,” as Queen Guene vere. And Sean Hopkins who began his acting career at Salt City Center for the performing arts in Syracuse, N.C., under the direction of Joe Lotilo, as Sir Lancelot. The story was about a shy and lone ly king who backed into fame and glory when he initiated the idea of the knights meeting at a round table to settle issues intelligently, instead of killing off each other. Plus the agony he felt when he dis covered his best Bob Johnson friend and loyal confident (Lancelot) and his beautiful wife Guenevere were having an affair. There are other sub-plots and anti climactic moments in the play to hold one’s attention. Mr. and Mrs. James Sellars and Mr. and . Mrs. Robert Williams were just a few of the many patrons that witnessed this fine performance. June 24-July 27 the Pineville Dinner Theatre will present what is billed as one of the best beloved musicals of the century, “The Music Man.” “The Music Man” boasts some great songs - including the famous “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Till There Was You,” “Goodnight My Someone,” “Sincere,” “Gary, Indiana” and more. COLISEUM BLAST...For those of you who missed Patti LaBelle and the Com modores show at the Coliseum last Friday night, I hope an album will be released to give you an idea of the tremendous vibes generated by a well put together show. Pattie LaBelle opened the show with a solid performance that actually qualified her to close it. A well shaped, experienced artist, Patti left nothing to be desired as she performed some of her old hits plus some from her new album, “Release.” The energy didn’t stop with Patti LaBelle. The Commodores with their many lights, speakers, lasers and sparkling outfits were very elaborate. However, the eye-popping elaborateness didn’t take away from the true musical talent that these men from Tuskegee, Ala. possess and exhibit. From the beginning drum roll coupled with lasers and fireworks, to the religiously done “Jesus Is Love,” ending, the Com modores kept the medium sized audience in nana. Some of the audience consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Young, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Springs, Vinson Thompson, Jimmy Teeter and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Witherspoon. WEEKEND HAPPENINGS...
