Richard Dreyfus» To Star In WSOC-TV Sunday Night Movie
Richard Dreyfuss, in the role
that made him a star, is ail
ambitious young man whose quick
wits, slick line and sheer daring
win him everything but the girl he
loves, in "The Apprenticeship of
Duddy Kravitz," a television pre
miere on the ABC Television Net
work's "The ABC Sunday Night
Movie," July 20 at 9 p.m. on
Channel Nine.

Duddy's long-suffering father;
Micheline La ne tot is the girl who
wants to love him in spite of the
frauds that keep him going; Randy
Quaid is the innocent friend Duddy
cheats "for his own good," and
Joseph Wiseman is Duddy's exas
perated uncle. The New York
Times, calling the movie "funny,
fantastic and often moving," add
ed happily that "there's not a bad
performance in the film."
Duddy (Dreyfuss) isn't really
mean, or even selfish or greedy.
He just wants all there is and then
some, and he wants it NOW.
At the age of 18, tired of being
poor · and -distraught that the
wheel, the safety pin and other
great money-makers have already
been invented - Duddy knows
that he must find his own way to

become rich quick. One way is to
own land, but to buy land be has to
make a lot of money, and when
waiting tables and taxi-driving
don't provide that kind of money,
he turns to a little innocent smug
gling; be produces (for pay) the
most awful home-movie in history,
swindles a trusting friend (but only
for a good purpose) and generally
leaves a shambles in the wake of
his rise to riches. "Hie Times found

Jackson's LP "Off The Wall" Hits 4 Million Mark

arist Michael Jackson, whose LP,
"Off The Wall" has crossed the
four million sales mark in Ame
rica, has become the first solo
recording artist in history to place
four singles from the same LP IN
the nation's Top 10.
"She's Out Of My Life," the
fourth single from "Off The Wall"
entered the Top 10 on "Billboard"
and "Record World's" pop charts
the week of June 16. It follows the
number 1 singles, "Don't Stop 'Til
You Get Enough" and "Rock With
You," as well as the LPs title
track, "Off The Wall," into the
trade journals' Top 10.
Only three previous albums have
produced four Top 10 singles:
Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" and
the multi-artist soundtracks to the
films "Saturday Night Fever" and
"Grease." "Off The Wall" is the
first album by a solo artist to
accomplish the feat.
As of June 16, the LP has been on
Billboard's Top 100 album chart
for 43 weeks, by far the most
impressive run by any current Top
100 record - "Off The Wall" charts
as high as number five for the
week, as it continues its long string
of weeks in the Too 15.

The folks at the Park Utopia
Retirement Hotel sweet-talk Ann,
Barbara, Schneider, Max and
Grandma Romano into once again
putting on a New Year's Eve show,
on "One Day at a Time," to be
rebroadcast Sunday, July 20, at
8:30 p.m. on WBTV, Channel 3.
Nanette Fabray returns in her
guest role as Grandma Romano
and reprises the famous "Trip
lets" number she performed in the
MGM musical, "Bandwagon."
