a_ m 1 mT i nursaay, uctoDer 30. I960 - Vote Tuesday, November 4 - It’s Your Futuref dj curen iianson Special To The Post “Vote November 4. It’s your future!” That’s the message the Vote Task Force is spreading across the community in the last week before the general election next Tuesday. On car bumpers, on lamp posts, in church bulletins and over the radio, the VTF message is aimed at getting a large black voter turnout. “Our goal is 18-20,000 black voters, or 70 percent of those registered,” said VTF chairman Sam Reid. On November 4 volunteers will ^pperate a ride service out of the ^VTF headquarters in the Westover Shopping Center. The number to call is 333-0394. To reserve a ride call this number between 5-9 p m., Monday through Friday. The ride service will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. I he VTF office will also have information on polling places, sample ballots and volunteers to answer questions. The "get out the vote” effort will be coordinated with the A. Philip Randolph Institute, which will pro vide 15 cars and door-to-door can vassers, and the NAACP voter project, which includes calling some 29,000 old voters. A “Get out the Vote” rally will be held Sunday, November 2, at 4:30 p.m. at Johnson C. Smith Uni versity Chapel. Harvey Gantt and Ron Lee per will be the featured speakers. Providing music wiii be the United House of Prayer's McCullough Tigers Band and the Young Sisters, C.N. Jenkins Gospel Choir, Don de Grate De legation, with Jim Black of WGIV as M.C. All candidates have been invited to the non-partisan rally to meet the voters. The rally is free ana open to the public. Later on November 2 VTF mem bers Reid, Lonnie Graves and Scotty Hendricks will appear on WGIV’s “Black Rap’’ program from 9:30-11 p m. The final Voter Education Work shop will be held Saturday, No vember 1, at Metropolitan United Presbyterian Church (West Blvd. at Old Steele Creek Rd). New and old voters are invited to demon strations of the voting machine. Sample ballots and lists of elected officials will also be available. The VTF has contacted each of the newly registered 1,316 black voters to attend similar workshops in Districts 1, 2 and 3. When asked why he spends several hours a day in the “Get out the Vote" campaign, Graves n replied: “People are supposed to run the government, not the government run the people. We need to turn it around so officials serve us, and not us serve them. People are afraid of officials. But the masses of people can make some changes if we would just band together. The question is, how do we make the system work for US?” ■ SISTER LMARGO |?GOD HAS A WAY See SISTER MARGO. She has the God-given power to heal by prayer.
