Church lien's Briefs Ministers’ Conference Number Two Plan Meeting Here February 6 By Teresa Burns Post Staff Writer The Ministers' Confer ence No. 2 of Charlotte will be held 7 p m Friday, February 6, at West Char lotte School Auditorium More than 50 pastors will be present Guest speaker will be Rev. Cleophus Robinson of St. Louis. Mo. He is well known as "The World's Most Famous Preacher and Singer." His sister, Josephine James and his son, Cleo phus Jr., also a noted sing er and organist will appear at the conference. Out standing musical choirs from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, University Park Baptist Church, Silver Mount Baptist Church, all of Charlotte and Provi dence Baptist Church, Lia colnton, will perform also. President of the Min isters’ Conference No. 2 is Rev. Dr. James E. Palmer, pastor of University Park Baptist Church. According to Dr. Palmer, all proceeds from this affair will go towards an established scholarship fund The con ference awards scholar ships to deserving young women and men at the • close of each school year. This year two students will receive scholarships from the organization Tickets are $3.50 in ad vance and $4 at the door Children under 12 - $2 The ministers of the Con ference are working ex tremely hard this year to make this event one of the greatest evenings of good gospel music. Rebecca Circle of the “Women’s Association of~ Statesville Avenue United Presbyterian Church, 2806 Statesville Ave., honored its Senior Citizens and friends with dinner recent ly. Mrs. Bessie Green and Mrs. Sally Kelly, two of the citizens honored, gave timely Christmas dramatic readings. Each of the honorees was given a surprise gift. Spe cial gifts were presented to Mrs. Maude Ray, who was the first person to arrive at the dinner; Mrs. Dema J. Armstrong from Chicago, who traveled the farthest; and Statesville Avenue Church's own Mrs. Bessie Green, the oldest person present at 89 years young. Mrs. Mattie B. Lineber ger, chairperson of Rebec ca Circle; Mmes. Rose mond A. Lindsey, Sibyl . Montgomery and Mary C. Flowe, members of the Action-Involvement Com mittee along with other members of the Circle pre pared a delectable full course dinner. The program was planned by the Action-In volvement Resource per son of the Women’s Asso ciation, Mrs. Ida Baker. The Christmas music was arranged by pianist. Mrs. Mildred Sanders. EAST STONEWALL AME East Stonewall AME Zion Church, 1729 Griers Grove Rd., recently had a successful church rally. Pastor of the church, James E. McCoy, would like to thank each partici pant. The goal, thanks to each and everyone, was exceeded. Winners of the rally were named Man and Woman of the Year. “Woman of the Year is Mrs. Audrey M. Womble, “Man of the Year” is Robert Lee. First runner-up women's division is Ms. Alice Tins ley; second runner-up is Mrs. Eva Beatty. First runner-up, men’s division, is Jackson Womble; second runner-up is Larry Jack son. According to the church reporter Rena Blake the church rally’s purpose is to meet the financial obligations of the church. The monthly meeting of the Young Adult Usher Board will be held at the home of Mrs Mary Wil more Saturday, January 17, at 6 p.m. New mem bers are welcome The Laymen’s Council of the Charlotte District will hold its regular monthly meeting at East Stonewall Monday, January 19, at 7:30 p m The McCoy Sing ers will sing during the devotional servicfe. First Mt. Zion Baptist Church choir will be in concert at East Stonewall February 8 at 6 p.m. This program is sponsored by the Stewardess Board No. 1 in celebration of their anni versary.
