Recruiting Effortk Spelman Alumni Chapter Entertains 14 Students The Charlotte Chapter of the National Alumnae As sociation of Spelman Col lege recently sponsored a recruitment program and luncheon for their alma mater at Friendship Bap tist Church. Fourteen juniors and seniors from local high schools attended the event which featured an inform ative slide presentation about Spelman College. The participants browsed through a collec tion of annuals and other memorabilia from the members’ personal collec tions. Mrs. Leah Creque Harris, Director of Admis sions at Spelman, was pre sent to coordinate the slide presentation and to answer any questions about the college. Spelman has been educating black women for Marilynn Doby Embarks On Exciting Career Marilynn Denise Doby is one Charlottean who has embarked on a challenging career. Ms. Doby recently joined the First National Bank of Atlanta as a man agement associate. Doby, 27, will serve in various divisions of the bank in order to acquire general knowledge of the functions and interwork ings of selected aspects of banking. Presently she is assigned to the credit analysis de partment: Her duties lrr clude analyzing and inter preting financial positions of bank customers in rela tion to their solvency and financial strength as loan customers. Graduating from Appala chian State University, Boone, N.C. in 1976 with a BS in speech communica tions-theatre arts, Ms. Doby then went on to com plete her master's in coun seling at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greens boro in 1980. Ms. Doby is the daughter of Florence Tena Martin and Walter C. Doby She is a native of Charlotte and now resides in Clarkston, Ga. , _ t Ijtizen Input Meetings Scheduled . A series of five citizen input meetings will be held over the next six months as part of a consultant's study of leisure services in Char lotte-Mecklenburg. The meetings will all be held at the Park Center Audi torium, 310 N. Kings Dr., starting at 7:30 p.m. on February 26, March 25, April 30, May 28 and July 13 The purpose of the meet ings is to obtain public comments and suggestions on a five year urban park and recreation action plan being developed for the City of Charlotte by Har land Bartholomew Asso ciates, Inc of St. I^ouis. Las Amigas Observes Founder’s Day Activities Founder's Day activities were observed by the Char lotte- Mecklenburg Chapter of Las Amigas this month. A Candlelight Service was led by Las Amigas president Evelyn Turner, with responsive commit ments from the members. Following the prayer, members joined hands and sang their Loyalty Song Afterwards a Social Hour was held at the Excelsior Club. Mrs. Dora Mason, founder of Las Amigas was presented a Dish Garden by Geri Wiley. Founders Day activities were concluded on Sunday, February 8. at the It a m. group worship. Officers and members of Las Ami gas worshipped at Realties_ Ford Rd. Trinity Park Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Robert Miller. The “Outstanding Mem ber”, Lula Gaskins, was recognized at this service in addition to the numerous activities and services pro vided throughout the year by Las Amigas.
