Winchester, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mack G. Winchester of Bridal Wood Lane, Char,lotte( is home on a special, temporary as signment for the U.S. Army. Until mid-May, Phyllis will assist her former re cruiter, Sergeant First Class A. G. Player, at the Army Recruiting Station, 3601 E. Independence Blvd., Charlotte, as a Hometown Recruiter Aide, talking to young men and women of the Charlotte area of her personal Army experiences. A graduate of. Garinger High School, Phyllis was trained in Army basics and advanced individual train ing in administration at Ft. Jackson, S.C. Henry, a senior ; from Charlotte, presented * his paper entitled, “The Effects of Modeling on Avoidance Learning in • Fish.” _Reginald Jackson, senior, from Brooklyn, N Y., presented his paper entitled, “The Influence pf Gender on the Attitudes of Black College Students To ward Selected Ethnic Groups " Both students received incentive awards for their presentations. Henry also made his pre sentation at the Carolinas’ Psychology Conference which was held in Raleiflh Keep your out-of-town friends informed on what’s happening in Charlotte by sending them a copy of the Charlotte Post each week vciai nuurb oi tutoring ana recreational activities for the Renaissance clients Many hours were spent co ordinating and addressing promotional material for the Renaissance Fund Drive, an enormous under taking which will culmin ate with a benefit spon sored by WBTV-WBCY at White Oaks June 7. Candidates for the so rority also prepared a de licious spaghetti dinner for residents, staff and WBT WBCY representative Nancy Waters recently. Under the direction of Patricia Dowdy, chairper son of the membership committee of Delta Sigma Theta, each volunteer has committed 15 hours of ser vice and support to this unique group home pro gram designed to teach responsible independent living skills to homeless, troubled young women. Renaissance is a licensed group home operated by Youth Homes, Inc., a pri vate non-profit organiza tion which also operates group homes for boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 16. As long as places like Renaissance are aided by concerned groups such as the pledges for Delta Sig ma Theta, the Charlotte community can continue to have an optimistic outlook toward the future. Lynda Foster, Bron wen Gibson,- Carmela Howie, Debra Hyatt, Vi vian Roscoe, Linda San ders, Devia Thinisee and Theadoshia Williams Burkhalter Named Part-Time Consultant John M Belk, chairman of the board of Belk Stores Services, Inc., today an nounced that former Char lotte City Manager David A. Burkhalter has been re tained as a part-time con sultant for Belk Stores. Burkhalter will be in volved in the areas of go vernment relations, com munity affairs and other management-related acti vities for the Belk organ ization, which operates nearly 400 department stores throughout the Southeast. "We're very pleased that David Burkhalter has agreed to serve as a con sultant for us," Belk sai3~” "He’s a superb manager with excellent manage ment skills and know-how. His outstanding career as a citv manager illustrates this. I’m sure we'll bene fit greatly from our asso ciation with David." Burkhalter has more than 29 years of manage ment experience in muni cipal government, includ ing nearly 10 years as Charlotte City Manager.. He retired from that posi tion on February 27, 1981.
