Grace Jones •—i tigress performer Grace Jones Is Really ■ ■ Something Wild To Watch! By Teresa Burns Post Staff Writer WIIIIIIIILD WOOOOOOMAN! And if you can’t get in to that you can’t get into Grace Jones. She started the Macho Woman image long before Blondie's Deborah Harry, or Marianne Faithful ever set foot on the scene. Ms. Jones is really something wild to watch while performing on a stage. Last time she was on a television program aired in Char lotte I was fortunate enough to be watching. And what I saw was an eye full - what I saw I'd never seen before. There was Grace Jones in a rather seductive outfit mingling with the audience. At one time she grabbed a male in the collar snatching him left to right roughly. The gentleman only smiled and so did her spell entranced audience - even me. Remember the movie “A Star Is Born" when the rock singing star rode his motorcycle off the stage’’ Well, Ms. Jones isn’t in a movie but sbe has ridden her motorcycle through a crowd. She has what it takes to be an entertainer. "I'm a truly beautiful woman and a true artist," she said describing herself. You've probably heard her re cent hit on one of the soul radio stations. Something about a car and she wants to get down. Then you hear a cleverly planned car horn - it's both a creative and catchy song. One can look at Ms. Jones and realize she is not only talented but also intelligent and well-bred She was born in Jamaica to a clergy man father. She is a member of a family that has been influential in Jamaican politics for many generations. She can speak fluent French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese. She has traveled to Europe. Africa, Paris, Japan and South America. Ms. Jones first wanted to be come an actress, then she started to model, appearing on such pres tigious magazine covers as "Elle," “Vogue" and "Der Stem." But singing began to turn her on more and she realized that she could turn on her audience as well. Becoming the first performer ever to appear live, in concert at Studio 54, Ms. Jones began to attract fans. Her first recording contract was in France and from there she began to produce thrill ing tunes - "That's the Trouble" and "Sorry" were both written by Ms. Jones. "I Need A Man," "Do or Die," and "La Vie En Kose" are other songs that have risen to popularity. She also has four albums to her - credit. So if you haven't seen or heard of Grace Jones you’ve missed a lot, you've missed a contemporary force eding for a mass popularity burst.
