That’s exactly what Keyna Nadeidra Chiles is. she is only three years old and already knows her alphabets and how to count to fifteen. She is creative in her kindergarten class and demonstrates it by creating artistic objects. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Chiles and the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs. Howard Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Chiles. She is a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church and...oh, by the way _she_loves^French fries! Mercy To Graduate 20 Twenty seniors in the Mercy School of Nursing will graduate on Friday, June 5, 1981 in commence ment exercises scheduled at 7 p.m. in the Myers Park High School Auditorium in Charlotte. The graduates will receive diplomas and pins marking successful completion of the three year diploma program. Special recognition will be given to the outstanding student and to the student with the highest class average. Awards will also be given to the students who excelled in the areas of psychiatric nursing, pedia tric nursing, medical-sur gical nursing and obstetric Dr. E. K. Fretwell Jr., chancellor of the Univers ity of North Carolina at Charlotte, will deliver the commencement address. He received a B.A. with distinction in English from Wesleyan University (Mid dletown, Conn.), an M.A.T. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Dr. Fretwell has been Chancellor of the University of North Caro lina at Charlotte since January 1, 1979. Edwar'd F. Shaver Jr., M.D., president of the Mercy Hospital medical staff, will speak to the graduates at a breakfast on June 5, 1981. Dr. Shaver, a 1959 graduate of Tulane University Medical School, completed his residence at Harvard University Medic al School in 1963. Dr. Shav er came to Charlotte 17 years ago after having completed a teaching fel lowship at Baylor Univers ity in Houston, Texas. The School of Nursing at Mercy Hospital are cele brating their 75th annivers ary in 1981. The School was _ established in 1906 and has graduated over 1,400 students. Sexuality Seminar Planned This is your opportunity to discover more about your personal sexuality. The TTW1 Famil>r Counseling Service, along with the Urban Studies at Johnson C. Smith University and the Black Studies Department at University of North Carolina-Charlotte will -sponsor a personal sexuality seminar. Designed to provide participants with a broader knowledge and appreciation of human sexuality, the seminar is not a classroom course, but an informal learning experience. sexual unioiaing is me topic of the seminar. Gala Affair George Dawson Celebrates 31st Wedding Anniversary Mr and Mrs. George W. _ ^ ^ vunovuui »wu ti ma oil ctri recently celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary with a gala affair at their home which- was attended by approximately 75 friends, relatives and well wishers. The guests brought “a lot of presents," according to Mrs. Dawson, the former —Bettie Prioleau. She added, "And they (gifts) are still coming in from people who were unable to attend," the 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. affair. The celebrants, both na tives of Sumter, S.C., where they were married, have 5 living children - three are deceased: Betty Jean Dawson, Carol Diane Bouler, Gerald W Dawson, Carl A. Dawson and An thony E. Dawson, all living in Charlotte. For the occasion Mrs. Dawson wore a red satin gown with matching red satin shoes and a white carnation corsage. Mr. Dawson wore a navy blue suit with a red shirt and blue striped tie. The Dawson's were de lighted to have Mr. Daw son’s 93-year-old cousin, Ruth Simmons of Southern Pines, N.C., and her son, Jack Simmons, attend the festive occasion. The Dawsons attend Gethsemane Baptist Church, pastored by the Rev. C. E. Dewberry. Mrs. Dawson is a mem ber of the Mass Choir, the Nancy Chaplin Missionary Group, and helps with the Girl Scouts. Her hobbies -are traveling, doing volun teer work with the Char lotte-Mecklenburg Schools, ■ and tending her flower garden. The Avon Cosmetics sa'les lady of 23 years ex perience says she will MT. Mr. Dawson works for Charlotte Pipe Foundry on Clarkson Street where he has been employed for the Reid Is Responsible For 91 Parks And 16 Centers By Loretta Manago Post Staff Writer After Larry Reid grad uated from York Road High School in 1966, he decided to serve in the Marine Corps. That deci sion, probably one of the most important decisions that Reid has ever made, could be one reason why Reid is where he is today. On. May 13 Reid was named Chief Park Ranger. In this position Reid su pervises a staff of ten and is in charge of the smooth operation of 91 parks and 16 recreational centers. He is the first black ever to serve in thir position. As Jhief Park Ranger Keid’s duties require him to see that the law is enforced, handle any pro blems in the park and to eliminate any safety or security hazards. Reid's interest in law enforcement began when he enlisted in the Marine Corps. It was while he was in the service when he gained his first law en forcement experience. Once he had finished his stint in the service, Reid joined the staff of former Mecklenburg County’s Sheriff Stalls and the pre sent sheriff. Sheriff Wall. In 1979 Reid began working for the city as Lieutenant with the Airport Police. His greatest problem as Chief Park Ranger in volves general vandalism, Larry Reid ...Chief Park Ranger marijuana and driving across the lawn. But even these problems can be reduced if he has the co operation of the commun ity To Reid this is ms eroat est challenge. Reid stated. "I am concerned about striving to achieve a har monious relationship with the citizens of Charlotte and dealing effectively with other law enforcement agencies.” He is determined in reaching his goal and so licits that any complaints, inequities or questions be directed to him at 374 2464. A pre-law student at Cen tral Piedmont Community College, Reid is a member of Prince Hall Grand Lodge Star of St. Matthew, No, 566, the North Carolina National Guard Associa tion and the N.C.
