Research Reveals Startling Information About Attitudes
Research results recently re
vealed some startling information
concerning attitudes. Between 24
to 49 years ago people’s views of
America have changed - it’s up to
you to determine if they are for the
better.
For the Institute for Social Re
search, University of Michigan
asked this question; “Do you be
lieve that a woman who remains
unmarried is sick, neurotic or im
moral?” In 1957, 80 percent polled
agreed, but in 1978 only 25 percent
thought yes to this question.
The Gallup Poll revealed that in
1938, 78 percent believed that if a
woman has a husband capable of
supporting her, she should not
work for pay. In 1978 only 26
percent believed this.
The Department of Commerce,
Census Bureau released that in
1950, 70 percent of the households
had full-time working fathers,
stay-at-home mothers and one or
more school-age children, ( a
percentage of total households). In
1979, only 14 percent of the total
households could be termed as
above.
One person households, as a per
cent of total households rose in 1980
to 23 percent compared to 13.1
percent in 1969 and 17.1 percent in
1970.
And this seems to be the most
startling one, and it’s actually no
secret to the American public.
Since 1930 the divorce rate per
1,000 population has increased
from 1.6 to 5.1 percent in 1979.

Have you ever wondered what
song is played and sung the most?
Well, blow out my candles...it's
“Happy Birthday To You.”
The lyrics and tune were created

“With Teresa Burns
Bits &
Hill first as ‘‘Good Morning To
You.” That didn’t catch on after
being published so they changed
the words to ‘‘Happy Birthday To
You” and presto a hit. The first
version was composed in 1893 and
the “Happy Birthday” version was
published in 1935. -- v «

There are over 2,000 odd
varieties of shrimp around the
world. A female can carry 600,000
eggs at one time. The male at
taches a spermatophore, a tiny
packet, to the female's underside.
She then releases the eggs into the
currents. A female may spawn two
or three times a season, producing
up to 1.8 million eggs.
Shrimp eggs have a less than one
percent chance of living. But the
eggs hatch in 24 hours after spawn
ing. At about three weeks they are
recognizably shrimp and usually
on the full moon the matured
shrimp change their environ
ments, from the shore areas back
into the open waters. Once back in
the open they start the cycle all
over. The shrimp relatives are
lobster and crab. Shrimp are crus
taceans and they have ten legs, the
first pair with claws.

starting a family, or you don’t
know what to think about it, here’s
where to start: “Ourselves And
Our Children,” an inspriing vo

the worries and conflicts that are
attached to parenting. The book’s
due this month from Random
House ($12.95, $6.95 paper), and
created by the same Boston Wo

the inquisitive mother and father
would think to ask about shared
and single parenthood.
