Cicero McGill Attends Davidson Tennis Camp By Chase Vance Post Sports Writer Cicero "Junior” McGill, the son of Mrs. Angelina Butler of the Trinity Park Beatties Fd. Rd. neighbor hood, has been selected by the North Carolina Tennis Association as a USTA Scholarship Camper McGill, 15, is a ninth grader at Alexander Junior High School. He will repre sent the state of North Carolina beginning Sun day, at the Davidson Ten nis Camp. The camp will run from June 14-19 Openings Available At YWCA Camp According to Stephanie Sullivan, Camp Director, there is still time and there are spaces available for registering children in both YWCA Kiddie Kamp and Kamp-A-Long Kamp-A-Long, for girls ages 7-12, will hold four two-week sessions: First Session, June 15-26; second, June 29 - July 10; third, July 13-24, and fourth, July 27 - August 7 Camp activities will begin at 8:30 a m. and end at 4:30 p.m., Monday through Fri day. Fees are $60 per ses sion, which also includes insurance. Kiddie Kamp, for boys and girls ages 4-6 who have not attended the first grade will be held two days a week for four weeks on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a m. till noon The first session will be from June 23 - July 16, and the second from July 24 - Au gust 13. Fees are $35 for the first child in the family and $25 for the second for each session. This fee also in cludes insurance. Both Kamp-A-Long and Kiddie Kamp will be held at the Park Road Center. Registrations will be taken at both the Trade Street and Park Road Centers. Parental or guardian membership in the YWCA is required._ “We are delighted that Cicero will be representing our state at the Davidson Tennis Camp as a partici pant in the Summer Camp Scholarship Program,” said Mrs. Dru Michaels, executive secretary of the North Carolina Tennis Association. For the past tour years, the United States Tennis Association Development program has operated the Summer Tennis Camp Scholarship Program in co operation with well-known tennis playing profession als and camp directors around the country. The scholarship program works like this; the spon soring pros pay half the camper's tuition and the other half is donated by the tennis camps. The USTA handles all of the admin istrative details and serves as liaison between the sponsoring groups, the camp director and the tennis pros. “1 am very happy to be attending the camp," said McGill. “It will give me an opportunity to improve on my strokes and tech niques." — McGill is ranked number 11 on the BATCH Junior Tennis Team ladder He has been playing with the Traveling All-Stars for two years. He also plays with the Hornet’s Nest Park Aces in the summertime. He has been in that pro gram for two years, also. The Davidson Wildcat camp will be headed by Jeff Frank.
