Atlantic Starr-A Fusion Of Particles Filled With Music By Teresa Burns Post Staff Writer Atlantic Starr....a fusion of par ticles filled with musical tangents, a thrust into the realm of con scious ecstacy And Atlantic Starr almost has it made. With just a little more exposure they are sure to be one of the top performing groups. Their latest and third album, “Radiant" proves that point. Comprised of members from three different bands, Atlantic Starr now contains nine mem bers: Jonathan Lewis, Joseph Phillips, Clifford Archer, David Lewis, Koran Daniels, Porter Carroll, Sharon Bryant, Wayne Lewis and William Sudderth. David, Jonathan and Wayne Lewis are brothers who play the guitar, trombone and keyboards, respectively. Clifford Archeron bass, Porter Carroll Jr. on drums. Bill Sudderth II on trumpet, Koran Daniels on saxophone, Joe Phillips on percussion and the incredible Sharon Bryant sharing lead vocal with Davis, Wayne and Porter. Let’s reveiw their album “Ra diant." The album cover (blue with a bunch of stars) could have .been more creatively produced Bat we aren't buying the album to decorate our homes, are we? What's important is content... and that's what’s smoking! Of course, the tune on everyone's lips is "Send For Me" penned by Ron Kersey and Sam Dees, the same man who wrote “One In A Mil lion." This spiffy tune is sung by Wayne Lewis rather masterfully. He has another style emphasized on “Think About That." Wayne is known for his preaching voice. Sharon Bryant, with her ram bunctiously exuberant vocals is featured on three selections in cluding "When Love Calls.” Her voice captivates one from begin ning to end. She also duets with David Lewis on "Am I Dream ing?” a swoon of a song. David later adds a sort of Pop dimension with "Does It Matter,” one of his four co-written com positions on the "Radiant” release. "Mystery Girl" penned by the Lewises is sung by P. Carroll Jr Featuring a European dance rhythm "Mystery Girl" is a story concerning an unattainable girl “Under Pressure" is an R&B thriller offered and penned by Jon Lind. Larry McNally and Bill Gable, members of Earth, Wind and Fire writing lab Again Wayne exults supreme versatility with this disco-party jjrop Under the A&M Kecord label, Atlantic Starr's album was pro duced by James Carmichael, the same man who aided in the con tinued successes of The Commo dores The group manager. Earl Cole, noted the following, about the famous Carmichael, "James Car michael corralled the best of the group. His personality, his expert ise and his sense of perfection made him the final ingredient in the group.” Singer-keyboardist-composer Wayne Lewis stated, "James is one of those rare producers. He's totally interested in the artist and the ‘right’ material selection for the artist. He works very hard to refine the group's sound.” And to say the least. Atlantic Starr is soooooo refined. “Alice” A crime wave has hit Mel’s Diner and Mel and Vera become victims, on a rebroadcast of "Alice,” Sunday. July 26, at 9 p m on WBTV, Channel 3.
