Rev. Manley’s Life Is Built On
Foundation Of Involvement!

Rev. J. R. Manley’s life is built
on the foundation of involvement.
Whether it has been with the
church or the community, Manley
has totally committed himself to
whatever cause he has believed in.
Born in Murfreesboro. N.C.,
Manley graduated from Shaw Uni
versity with A.B. and B.D. de
grees. Later he received his Th.M.
degree from Duke University.
After he completed special work in
Hospital Chaplaincy at N.C.
Memorial Hospital, Manley stu
died further at the University of
N.C, at Chapel Hill.
Having completed his formal
religious training. Manley dabbled
in the world of politics. He was the
first Black elected to the Chapel
Hill-Carrboro School Board. He
also was chairman of Chapel Hill’s
anti-poverty program, past presi
dent of the local NAACP chapter,
and the local Ministerial Alliance.
Rev. Williams Is
Chairman Of The
Executive Board
Chairman of the Executive
Board of the Lott Carey Baptist
Foreign Mission Convention for the
past five years, Williams is the
pastor of the Mount Moriah Bap
tist Church in Washington, D.C.
An active member of various
religious, civic and fraternal or
ganizations, Williams is a member
of the District of Columbia Com
mission on Human Rights, the
Board of Trustees of Virginia
Union Universitv.
A native of Fredericksburg, Va.,
Williams also pastored Mt. Moriah
Baptist Church.

mission.
Manley is the minister of First
Baptist Church and Hickory Grove
Baptist Church both in Chapel Hill.

the father of one son, J R. Manley.
