Business League To Honor Six James Finney, president of Celanese Fibers Mark et Company will be the featured speaker at the Charlotte Business League s fourth annual banquet and awards pre sentation to be held Satur day, October 31, at 7:30 p m. in the Radisson Plaza Hotel, according to Frank lin McCain, public rela tions chairman for the league. r inney, headquartered at the Celanese office in New York, is a graduate of North Carolina State Uni versity and Nichols College in New York. He has served the compnay for over 20 years and partici pated in fundraising ac tivities for the Anti-Defa mation League and the• National Conference of Christians and Jews. Fin ney was honored as Tex tile Salesman of the Year, received an award for Dis tinguished Humanitarian Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Celanese, according to McCain has a superior re putation of providing equal employment opportunities for blacks. McCain said he expects 400 to attend, including CBL members, represent atives from various busi nesses and other guests. Former winners have in cluded Sam Johnson of Sam Johnson Lincoln-Mer cury and “Mr. Grigsby’’ who developed the teach er's credit union. Profes sional golfer Charles Sif ford received a special award last year. Three to six honorees will be chosen by a nominating committee and notified be fore the banquet. Prior to this event semin ars on business finance, maintaining a business and other related topics will be held during that week. James Polk serves as pre sident of the Charlotte Business League. Washington Height Garden Club News Chairpersons of the Washington Height Garden Club made their reports at the October meeting. Committes had sent cards to the sick and shut in and also to the Ber creed families. President of the club, Nancy English, presided over the meeting which was held at the home of Bertha Sowell on Russell Street. Mrs. Sowell served a delicious dinner. The Civic Chairman said ■her committee, will .cleat off the dead flowers and trim the hedges and rose bushes at Oaklawn Ele mentary School as soon as possible. Chrysanthemum flowers and their care was a topic _Ql_ discussion also. Each month HTcfiTferenr flower' and its care procedures will be discussed. Members attending the meeting included Nancy English, Lois Scott, Edena Williams, Willette Patter son, Essie Stoval, Lillie Mae Carter, Jessie Lee ' Hamlin; Cora Gaither, Pearl Phillip and Bertha Sowell. SCOTT ...The former Miss Janette Hill Miss Janette Hill Weds Sargeant Victor Scott Janette Hill and Sgt. Victor J. Scott were mar ried Saturday, October 10, at Memorial United Pres byterian Church here in Charlotte. Officiating the ceremony was the Rev. Edward Newberry. The bride was given in mar riage by her father, Mr. Willie Hill Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Hill Sr. are the parents of the bride. The groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest R. Scott Sr. The bride wore an all silk peau d’ soie wedding gown embedded with Brussel lace which instituted the regal portrait neckline. The fitted sleeves' Brussel lace unfolds on a snug bodice complemented by the empire waistline. The front of the gown was embedded with lace and touched with paletts of bri dal pearls to the scalloped lace hemline flattered by the traditional chapel train. The groom was attired in an official Marine Corps formal dress uniform of navy and royal blue. The maid of honor was Samara Hill, sister of the bride and the matron of honor was Hazeline Scott Sarter, sister of the groom. Bridesmaids were Ellen Scott Banknight, Deborah Johnson, Mary H. Reid and Pamela Kincaid. Junior bridesmaids were Shannon Banknight and Kristi L. Johnson. Ebony Monique Scott and Vanessa J. Sarter served as flower girls while master Narvel A. Scott served as ring bearer. Ernest R. Scott Sr. was the best man. Ushers in cluded Preston Hill, Wen dell Hill, Anthony J. Scott, Ernest R. Scott Jr. and James A. Scott. Junior ushers were. Shawn .Gera Id and Eric Johnson. The prenuptial music was provided by organist Charles McCrary and solo was sung by Sylvia McManus. Sword officials were Sgt. Frank Williams, Sgt. Robert Wnson, Sgt: Ronnie Brown, Sgt. Timothy Hoff man Sgt. Carl Cole. Sgt. Mitchell Brown, Cpl. Dana Stockman and Cpl. Rodney 'Faurie. Directors of the wedding were Margaret Roberts and Elizabeth Gamble. _To celebrate such a renowned occasion the bride was congratulated with four showers. A kit chen shower given by Syl via Morgan, a bathroom shower given by Mrs. Ro bert L Davis Sr., a lin gerie shower, given by Margaret Roberts and a shower given by co-work ers. Jim Doby, Marion Hayes, Polly Barber, Edith Hatcher, Jim Possinger and Vera Gathings. The bride attends Cen tral Piedmont Community College and is also em ployed with Southern Bell as a trunk assigner in the switch services depart ment. The groom pursues a 10-year career in the U S. Marine Corps and is pre sently stationed in Charles ton S.C. The couple will honey moon in the Bahamas and will reside in Charleston, S.C. A reception was held fol lowing the ceremony at the Golden Eagle, Downtown.
