percent, the rate exceeded Sep
tember’s 5.4 percent but was con
siderably below October 1980’s 6.4
percent according to figures re
leased today by the state Em
ployment Security Commission

sion says, “The reversal is due to
various small layoffs by manu
facturing firms which terminated
a total of 6,800 employees.” Ac
cording to Outland, "Our unem
ployment rate is considerably
better than the national rate, and
we anticipate staying significantly
below national figures."
The national unadjusted unem
ployment rate in October was 7.5
percent, up slightly from Septem
ber-’s 7.4 percent.. ___

According to the Employment
Security Commission of North
Carolina, the average hourly earn
ings of production workers in
manufacturing industries were
$6.13 in October of 1981, up $.0.06
from the previous month and up
$.0.58 from one year earlier.

Fund with coordinating the build
ing's development and will be the
exclusive leasing and manage
ment agents.
Construction of the new building
is scheduled to begin this month,
with occupartcy slated for July of
1982. The 40,000 square feet, two
story general office building will
cost $2 million.
