Not bad, he recalls with a grin,
for a person whose mother often
warned him he’d be “nuthin' but a

The 99-year old pianist and jazz

and Patrice Rushen can attest to
that statement.
Cissel’s second album, "If I Had
The Chance,” represents a truly
marketable product.
As always it Degins with Side
One. “If I Had The Chance,” an
exhilirating duet with M^rva King
possesses the melodies and sounds
to leave you mystified. From there
another stirring, melodic tune,
“All I See Is You,” takes control
and leads up to the pulsating beat
of “Night _Miracles” but slows
down for “Love's Grown Deep.”
Briefly Side Two contains the
rocking rhythm of “Possessed,”
the love ballads, “Love Is Missing
From Our Lives" and “Under
standing Man” and the upbeat
tune, “Dance Away The Pain.”
-Patrice Itushen—
“Straight From The Heart”
“Straight From The Heart” does
not simply magnify the talents of
Patrice Rushen as a vocalist but
her ability as a top-rate producer,
arranger, lyricist and musician.
On “Straight From The Heart”
Rushen -plays the electric pianor
synthesizer, percussions, clavinet
and guitar.
Side One is a succession of
“upbeat selections including her
current., “Forget Me Nots.” Other
tunes are “I Was Tired Of Being
Alone,” “All We Need” and “Num
ber One.” —
Flip over to Side Two and you’ll
find a mixture of fast and slow
songs. “Where There Is Love,”
“Breakout,” “If Only,” “Remind
Me” and “(She Will) Take You
Down To Love” make for some
easy listening.______
