' There are at least 50 ■ identified species of mos quitoes in North Carolina, and the wetter the season, the more mosquitoes we’re likely to see and feel. Ac cording to Jerry Perkins, head of the state's Vector ' Control Branch, “mosqui like to Test in gr&SS, shrubbery or other foliage, but they don't develop there. Omega photo enlargers, 35mm cameras, dark room timers and equipment will toe on sale. Also cars, books, project ora, furniture, toys and games, office equipment and supplies, sporting goods, crafts and more will hie there for the getting. There will be magic, music, refreshments, good food, free clown faces for the young and the young at-heart, plus the Carolina Clowns will present a show you won’t forget. Head Start b Registering Children The Charlotte Areea Fund-Head Start Program for low-income pre-school children is now registering children for the upcoming school year. Parents must meet income eligibility require ments for children to qualify. He noted, however, that there is a lot the public can do to reduce the mosquito population around their homes and yards: -Empty, remove, cover or turn upside-down any receptacles that could hold waterrsuctras^-botttes-or cans; ./ _-«-nange the water in outside flower vases at least twice a week and grow cuttings in sand; -Discard old tires or store them -Screen rain barrels and water tank openings _ -Repair leaky plumbing and outside faucets : -Fill or drain areas that hold stagnant water -Clean clogged roof gut ters and drain flat roofs •Drain, spray and fill tree holes -Stock ornamental ponds with mosquito fish -Change water in bird baths twice weekly; in wading pools, weekly; and in watering pans, daily. In addition to being a nuisance, mosquitoes transmit serious diseases in humans such as enceph alities, yellow fever, dengue and malaria. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Meeks Jr. of 3327 Burbank Drive, the groom is a graduate of West Charlotte High School. Meeks is . employed by Cannon Mills. The reception was held at Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church.
