Six Standout At Olympic High By James Cuthbertson Post Staff Writer _ Outstanding Seniors at Olympic are Dallas Michael Banner, Ste phanie Denise Owens, Robin Co lette Springs, Denice Sandra Simmons, Melvin Jernel Wallace and George Elliot Wilson. Banner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Ferguson Jr. of 208 Huntsmoor Drive. He ranks in the top 25 percent of his class and has participated in basketball and was named to Who’s Who. He will attend UNCG to major in computer science. He has 3.0 grade point average. Owens is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Owens of 7603 Sha dowcrest Drive. She is active in Junior ROTC, The Civlnettes, Honor Society and Red Cross. She was named to Who’s Who. She plans to attend UNC-CH to major in business administration. She has a 3.5 grade point average and ranks 29th in a class of 400. Springs is the daughter of Mrs. To attend UNC-CH Johnnie Mae Brown of 4403 Kose Thorn Place. She has been active in the Torch (annual), the Civin- * ettes and in the All-State Band. She has a 3.3 grade point average and ranks 47 in a class of 400. She will attend the UNC-CH to major in medicine. She scored 980 on her SAT. Simmons is the daughter of Mr._^ and Mrs. Davicf Simmons of 657 Echo Cove Lane. Simmons has been active in the DECA Club and the COO Club. He is a member of the Vocational Honor Society and will attend Wingate College- to major in business. She has a 3.04 grade point average. Wallace is the son of Mrs. Jessie M. Wallace of 2202 Farmer Street. He has played football and basket ball being selected most valuable in football and All-County. He wil attend NCCU to major in account ing Wilson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wilson of 109 Colony Acres Drive. He is active in the Junior ROTC, the French Club. Forsenics (Pre sident), Student Council, Who’s Who, the High Q team and co editor of the literary magazine. He will attend UNC-CH to major in business administration. He scored 1,040 on his SAT. -n INoontime Performances By Mac Thrower Post Staff Writer NCNB Plaza Presents, a series of noontime performances on the NCNB Tower Plaza, has opened its sixth season. This season’s schedule features a variety of entertainment, rang ing musically from barbershop to bebop to opera; performances will also include a program for cooking tips and an imaginary tour of a tropical rain forest. The Steel Doim Symphonette will appear May 12, offering a wide range of music. This group has appeared professionally in a num ber of cities in the Southeast Brad Liebel, the Pelton and Crane affiliate artist, will appear on May 19, singing pop, classical, semi-classical and opera. The opera singer will be presenting an “informance,” during'which he will not only sing, but also talk about his music and his career. A barbershop quartet is sched uled for May 26 on the Plaza. Four Gone South, a group of four singers who transferred with IBM to Char lotte, will sing a variety of bar bershop tunes, including ballads, serious and comedy. Tips on cooking out-of-doors will be the theme of a presentation June 2 by John Sperl, executive chef at the Radisson. Sperl will be demonstrating- cooking techniques on the grill for lamb, pork, chicken and seafood. Pervis Lee, who works with executive administration for NCNB. will sing and play on June 9.
