These are thoughts administra tors at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro are pondering. ^ UNC-G Chancellor William E. Moran stated; “What we want to do and what we will do is to set new sights for the University and in this campaign establish a pattern of private support for the University that every important public uni versity needs for the decades to come.” What is this campaign Dr. Moran is referring to? Wei] the university has announced a (12 million major gifts campaign. The purpose is to strengthen the uni versity’s total academic program. More than (3 million has already been raised. Today 55.5 percent of WITH TERESA SIMMONS BITS & Pieces UNC-G’s $50.5 million budget in 1980-81 came from state appro priations. But it doesn’t hurt for them to look into the future. '‘Looking to the future, we feel we need to add some pluses to the already great institution that we have, and we can only do that through private contribution,” E.S. (Jim) Melsin, chairman of the UNC-G Board of Trustees, stated. This three-year effort has the theme “Shaping The Future." + + + + + Vernon E. Jordan received the Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom Award recently at the Eighth Annual Convention ot the National Conference of Black Mayors, Inc.: (NCBM) in Birmingham, Ala Dam a. The award was named after the famous civil rights worker and is merited through unselfish service to the community and to mankind. The awards luncheon was spon sored by Coca-Cola USA. Jordan is a native of Atlanta. He resides with his wife and daughter in New York City. + + + + + Sam Hassell, a junior and Kim Smith, a senior at Independence High School, have each won 1982 National Scholastic Art Awards. Their work will be on exhibit at the 55th National High School Art Exhibition June 11-30. + + + + + William Wilson Rash, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger W.
