Church News Briefs Shaw University Day Will Be Observed Here Sunday Morning B> Teresa Simmons Post Managing Editor Shaw University Day will be observed at First Bap tist Church-West Sunday, May 30 at the 11 a m service.--— Dr Stanley H Smith, president of Shaw will be the guest speaker Jointly sponsored by First Baptist and the Fred L Frewer Alumnu Chapter of Shaw University, a time will be set aside following the ser vice for high school seniors to confer with Dr Smith. Dr Elizabeth S. Ran dolph, a trustee of Shaw and a graduate, will intro duce Dr. Smith Benni Singleton will represent the National Alumni Associa tion of Shaw. singleton—wttl— also address a meeting to be held Saturday, May 29 at the home of Jessie Rich mond on Sierra Drive. Music for this occasion will be presented by the Chancel and Angelic Choirs. Cedric Jones, pre sident of the local Shaw University Alumni Chapter entitled the Fred Lorenzo Brewer Jr,. Chapter wilj_ _preside during the program. Jones, a Charlottean, is a retired English teacher of 'the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and recently received an honorary Pedagogy Doctorate de gree from the Teamer School of Religion. Dr. Smith has served as* president of the historical black college since 1978. He graduated magna cum laude from Fisk Univers ity, Nashville, Tenn., and received his Ph.D. degree from Washington State ' u~niVeTs 11y, Pullman,— Washington, in 1953. During his tenure as presi dent of Shaw he has im proved many of the curri culums including the busi ness management, and radio-television film de partments. He is a member of various organizations and has published 22 works. Dr. Smith is indeed an outstanding scholar and _leader._ The public is cordially invited to hear this gentle- - man speak. Rev. Pastors suggest we pray for the understanding but in addition there are other directions to take. Grier Heights United Presbyterian Church, located at 325 Skyland Avenue, will hold a Bible Study Group Tuesday; June 1 at 7:30 p.m. This group will start from the beginning of the Bible. The lesson will be Genesis III and IV. Quinton Boulware will be the leader of the Bible Study Class.
