Formed by president Bobby Bolon four years agq the Husband and Wife Social Club has grown to a membership of nine couples. -The club’s main goal for the past years has centered Mrs. Price Addresses Nursing Classes By Lori Grier Post Staff Writer Mrs. Marva Mizell Price (Class of ’72) addressed 17 members of the 1982 nursing class who were recently honored at a Senior Recognition Dinner on “The Image of the Nurse.’’ _ Mrs. Price is a nursing specialist with the Depart ment of Developmental Disorders of Learning, lecturer in the School of Public Health and holds the title of Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School, of Nursing, UNC-Chapel Hill. The Greensboro Grad uate Chapter of Teloca, the name of the A&T student nurse's organization and acronym for “Tender, Loving, Care," sponsored Dinner which was held in Williams Hall Commons at North Carolina A&T State University. Mrs. Marietta Raines, Dean of the School of Nursing provided remarks. Other committee members were Beatrice Barfow (Class of ’59) and Sandra Hicks (Class of ’61). Anita Miller Chesney (Class of ’71) served as chairperson of the program committee. According to Mrs. Ches ney, 33 nursing alumni sponsored the dinner to provide encouragement and to say “we care” to the new graduates as they em bark on their professional careers. Mrs. Beatrice Barrow is president of the Teloca Graduate Chapter In Greensboro which meets every second Wednesday at L. Richardson Memorial Hospital at 7:30 p.m. around a Christmas dinner that provides food for a family member in Lexing ton, Wadesboro and Charlotte. Presently the club is jh the stage of forming a scholarship fund for a deserving student.. In the near future the Husband and Wife Social Club will sponsor an attic sale on May 39 at the Flea - Market located on North Tryon Street. On July 17 the club is hosting a disco at the Park Center. The event which is open to the public will cost $10 per couple. The Husband and Wife Social Club meets once a month. Officers are: Bobby bolon, president; Louis Rudisill, vice-president; Dorothy Young, secretary; Judy Chisolm, assistant secretary; Helen I.nellen, treasurer; George Mapp, Marshall and Oddessa Mapp, flower and sick committee chairperson. Dues are $10 per month. The club flower is the carnation. The percentage of voting age black Americans who reported casting ballots rose to 51 percent from 49 percent in 1976, marking the first increase since the 1964 election when 59 per cent said they voted. The 1980 white turn out totaled 61 percent and among Hispanics the turnout was 30 percent, roughly the same as in 1976 - The total of 9.8 million blacks were registered in them, 8.3 million, reported voting compared with 89 percent of registered whites and 82 percent of registered Hispanics Black voter turnout in the North and West was 52.8 percent in 1980 while it u/ag AH 9 por^ont in the South For blacks, as among other races, the turnout rate was higher among white-collar workers (64 percent) than blue-collar workers (47 percent), and higher among college grad uates (76 percent) than high school graduates (50 percent). Black homeown ers voted at a greater rate *60 percent) than renters (44 percent). One-third of ail voters In November 1980 lived in families with incomes of $25,000 or more. The race will be held on Saturday, June 4, at 6 p m. The 5,000 Meter Run will be preceded bya 2-Mile Cross Country Run and a 1-Mile Fun Run at 5:30 p.m. and 5:15 p m respectively. The race is being held in conjunct ion with the Grand Opening Ceremonies of the Frank Liske Park on Stough Road in central Cabarrus County. Pre registration will be $5 until May 28, 1982, at Cabarrus County Parks and Recre ation Department (8-5) for the 5,000 Meter, $4 for the Cross Country, and $3 for the Fun Hun Race day registration will be $1 extra and will run trom 3-5 p.m. Awards will be given to the top two winners in each age division (male & female) of the 5,000 Meter Race and special overall awards to the top male and female winners in all three races.
