Jeanette White Finding Retirement “Flabbereastimr* By Teresa Simmons i’ost Managing Editor E\en before its origin Jeanette Keliy White has found that retirement can be as flabbergasting as a walk on the moon. A surprise retirement party for Mrs. White was thrown by friends of a club she is a member of, the Birthday and Sick Group "We wanted to show Mrs White our love for her," tjena Sarratt, fellow club member, commented. "She has done so much for members in the club and our club just wanted to honor her as a great lady." Ms Sarratt, who has worked w ith Mrs White at Sharon Tow ers Retirement Home for 10 years, offered (hat she has never seen her «}igry "She’s just every tgmg that s nice. She has a beautiful personality and tfcit never changes She's tmazing lady. Even she's sick she is stniling. If anything it kf>eps her going. ” •Mrs. White who will of ficially retire as a nurse's assistant July 14, has been known to take special in terests with the Towers’ and other nursing home -sictentj^She often sends flower bouquets and bI<F kets to nursing home resi dents. A member of St. John's tfaptwt—Church she also ajds others through Christ. According to her pastor, Kev Robert Leak, Mrs White gives baskets, clothes and benevolence gifts to members and non ttembers of the church ; "She's loved by all mem bers of the church and community,” Rev. Leak commented. "She advises the young against wrong and she is always sticking against wrong. • "She doesn’t hold any nialice; she's tolerant and patient.” Rev. Leak con Ms. Jeanette K. White ...“An amazing lady” ti niied Mrs. White is president of the Pastor’s Aid group at St. John’s and a member of . ihe. Sunday .School. Mis sionary, and is a member emeritus of the Usher Board. She has been a member of St. John’s since the age of 13. Rev. Leak has invited Mrs. White to be a dele gate from the church at the National Congress in Mil waukee, Wisconsin ‘She is a number one supporter of the church at large. She has contributed to the pro gress and improvement of her church in many ways and all of her actions are exemplified by her love,” Rev. Leak stated. Mrs. White enjoys cook ing including making up recipes and canning. Coach Ferguson was presented with a check for a thousand dollars from the Charlotte Aggie Club to help develop a weight room at the university. Volunteer Tutors Volunteer tutors are needed to work with adults who are learning to read Training workshops will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. June 15, 22 and 29 at Central Piedmont Com munity College. Las Amigas Conducts Qiarm Session By Lori Grier Post Staff Writer What does it mean to be in the ‘Little Miss Las Amigas" Pageant? It means cultural and person al enrichment experiences and lots more. It allows girls to make long lasting friendships with others in their age category at the -get acquainted activities At the session on Satur day, June 5, held at the Greenville Center, young girls were given the oppor tunity to participate in a personality enhancing ses sion led by Mrs Jeanne HoltzcTaw. This session' emphasized presenting one's self in a pleasant manner so that extending friendly relationships be comes lasting A group dis cussion about the sum total of one's own experiences Provided for extensive input among the young girls The charm session for the girls was led by the charming Dr. Joyce Wad dell. This group session de monstrated proper wear ing attire for occasions exemplified by each day of the week. As a surprise to the agenda each girl was present with a doll and handmade clothing They delighted in dressing for different events in our society. The founder of -Las- Ami gas and director of the pageant is Mrs. Dora Mason who arranged the entire series of events that accompany the involve ment for young girls in beauty, charm, self en hancing societal and cul tural participation Mrs Mason greeted parents and still found time to sit with the group of girls ages three to six as they talked about proper nutriiion and how these nutrients are naturally found in foods from our four basic groups This led to the setting of a table and, of course, proper table manners which are essential at home and in public places designed for eating It is hoped more oc casions for young black girls to become involved in beauty, charm, good grooming, cultural and so cial graces, for these ex periences are worthwhile for every young girl.
