Mattie Arnold received a prize for being the first Squaw to' register for the Conclave. Braves Samuel Davis and Daniel McLaurin cap tured a second place trophy for the Charlotte Chapter in the Talent Search Extravaganza. Brave Davis entranced the audience with “The Great est Love Of AH," while Brave McLaurin amazed everyone-* with “Three Times a Ladyt" Both have lovely singing voices. —lathe Braves Golf Tour nament, Brave John Shadd of Charlotte, won first Brave Orville Person from Fort Worth, Texas, was the recipient of the E. W. Cherry Sportsmanship trophy. The Durham Chapter of Squaws provided a variety of entertainment for mem Ders or ib various chap ters from nine states. The host chapter presented a luau which featured the Healanic Dancers, an authentic Polynesian Group, an Atoha Dinner and Talent Search, a form al dance (visit to the Main land) and a Brave Golf Tournament. The national organiza tion consisting of approxi mately 300 members donated a check o#--$3;300 towards the Uhited Negro College Fund. Dr. Smitn, president of Shaw Univers ity, received the award. Mae Orr was re-elected as Squaws, Inc. National Treasurer while Bettye McLaurin was elected as National Organizer. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric R. Moore, Moore is breaking • all negative stereotypes, about today's youth. At the completion of the 1982 school year Moore, a stu dent at Thomasboro Ele mentary School had re ceived a certificate for four years of perfect attend ance, made straight A s on his report card and scored 96 on his California Achievement Test A rising fourth grader Moore’s favorite subject is math. However, when he's not at school Moore plays on the Westchester Broncos Little League baseball team. Sponsored by the Westchester Optimist Club Moore and his teammates were this year’s Little Teague Uiw’iipumi,. Aside from baseball Moore is eager to join in a rugged game of football at any time. But sports and school do not occupy all of Moore's time. On Sundays he at tends Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and he is also a member of Mt. Carmel’s Sunday School. Once he becomes a member of Mt. Carmel -Moore will repre— sent the sixth generation of Moores that belong to Mt. Carmel. The grandson 4>f Do- ~ rothea B.
