Jonathan Senior of 147 Perrin Place in Charlotte is one of 129 carefully select ed students from 57 various colleges and universities participating in the fall semester of the London Semester Program spon sored by Beaver College in cooperation with the City of London Polytechnic. The group departed from Ken nedy Airport on September 13th. Senior will live with a British family for a week sharing daily experiences. He also experienced sever al days of orientation be fore arriving at his British family’s home. The London Semester students are enrolled for one semester in regular British degree courses fully integrated with Bri tish students in all phases of their academic activity. Senior is a student at American University ma joring in visual communi cations. • » I I I The National Achieve ment Scholarship Program for Outstanding Negro Stu dents has named 1,500 semi-finalists in the com petition for awards to be offered in 1983. Among those names were Charlotteans Phil E. Brooks and Lisa Coleman of East Mecklenburg: =a WITH TERESA SIMMONS= Bits Teresa Robert Pharr of Garinger; and Tasha Marshall of Olympic High School. These students repre sent the highest scoring black students in regional selection units established for the competition. The seminars will also nclude topics concerning the video revolution and tow it affects us; the re sponsibilities of the news media; America's accept ance of exiles; and the value of spiritual faith. The moderator for all sessions will be Patricia Steimer. Seminars will begin Oc tober 6 and last until De cember l, Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 600 Sharon Amity Road. The October 6 session alone will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. Students will earn 1.5 Continuing Edu cation Units. The cost for the course is $35.
